Approval at all time lows House.Slavery.Apology I'm not trying to seem unsensative but don't we have much bigger issues to tackle?

But this is a good thing and long overdue.

I think the apology is long overdue. And almost anyone old enough to have lived in the deep South through the later years of Jim Crow probably agrees.

Also, don't you really think this will lead to reparations? Not sure where I stand on that?

My concern is that now we owe apologies to everyone else our ancestors managed to harm or offend in some way. I suggest an omnibus bill wherein we simply state: Forewith, that we deeply and humbly apologize for any past or future harms done to any people groups, excluding of course white male heterosexuals, including but not limited to acts of enslavement, repression, oppression, impoverishment, displacement, interment, assassinations, coups, wars of aggression, insults, and any bad feelings which can conceivably be said to have been derived from agents, agencies, institutions and or any representative of the US of America in any form in now takes, has ever taken, or ever will take as long as it remains a viable entity. Let it be finally stated that the US wishes all parties considered the kindest good wishes, and all the best in any future endeavors. This apology while sincere, shall not for the purposes of legal action be considered an admission of liability for past wrongs suffered. That seems to cover our b...bases.

The people who sold them into slavery... Exactly. The next step is to find out what tribe every African American is descended from. If any are from the tribes that captured and sold other tribes into slavery, they should apologize also. Fair's fair. quote:

I think their descendent's political representatives just caved to political correctness and further enabled this dysfunctional addiction to victimhood and white guilt continue.

the apology is overdue. Too bad it took an act of congress to get it done.

Are you saying we were fools to apologize to Japanese Americans locked in concentration camps during WW2 and all those other groups the country has admitted to treating with less than American values?

And now they should apologize to the Chinese immigrants of the west coast,ot the Indians for driving them off their lands,to the Hawaians for taking their islands, for keeping Puerto Rico, the Virgin isles as US territory, etc etc.etc.. But I hope my congressman consults me for my opinion, afterall he is my representative. My answer shall be " Tell them to Get Over IT!"

But then again, my ancestors were not chained, raped, separated from their children, worked until they dropped dead, or killed for "cutting their eyes" at a white woman. So I could be wrong. I do know that telling people who have suffered greatly as a people to "get over it" only causes rage, hurt, and the feeling that those of us in the racial majority are insensitive idiots with the heart capacity of a praying mantis.

My ancestors were overthrown by the English, and it wasn't pretty. This may have helped them become good Presbyterians, eventually leave Scotland and come to the US,South Carolina to be exact. But their demise by the English is quite different, because that was white on white war, domination, imprisonement, quartering of troops etc...and long before the plight of African slaves by New England slavetraders to New England ports of entry here in America. I'm not insensitive and I'm not brushing aside a horrible injustice, but all people of all races have suffered at the hands of others at one time or another. Too often these "apologies" are empty political rhetoric, and this latest one is nothing new.
