I voted for Aaron as my favorite of the choices offered, but Aaron Howell (from my church) and Pat Barker are and always will be my favorite bass singers!

I don't understand the question. Did i miss something. Are we suppose to list a TOP 5 of our own? Or do we just pick a fav from this list of 5?
Or do we list our fav 5 still singing?...or do we list top 5 all-time?

Help!

PJ

We pick a favorite from this list---these are the top 5 finalists in the Fan Awards.

If I was picking my top 5 overall list, I think it would include Christian Davis, David Hester, and Randy Byrd. And I suppose we're free to take the thread off-topic in that direction, but the point of the poll was to get a forums feeling for the Fan Awards poll.

thanks for clearing that up for me, Daniel.

From this list, definitely Glenn Dustin, followed closely by Tim Duncan. My all-time favorite is still George Younce.

Daniel...wish you could have heard Mike Allen singing our song last Friday night. The audience loved it. The guys love singing it.

Mike is a true, do everythjng bass!

For anyone interested:
I Posted a full story about our set last Friday night.
In the article I compare Mike Allen's bass singin' to an even more
famous bass crooner of yesteryear! Can you guess who?
Find it at my blog link below.

Yes, I'd love to hear Mike Allen live some time.

Wait...how could I say that? I heard him solo a few months ago. Oops. Well, I'm even more looking forward to hearing him in a quartet format. :)

I voted for Glenn Dustin. My number two is not on the list, Jeremy Lile.

On the poll, Mike Holecomb hands down.
I feel that McCune was better with Palmetto State, as if he's slacked off since joining Gold City. But I've never seen them live since he joined. I've only heard the CD "Revival" and the song "I Cast My Bread". Who knows, I could be speaking out of ignorance.
I feel that these in the top 5 fan awards nominations are a weak representation of Southern Gospel's basses. Not that they're bad, but they aren't the best. Other than Mike, the others are relativley young and their voices haven't developed to their full potential. Give them some more years of singing, and then put them on the ballot for the award.
But from the fact that these 5 made it into the finals, I guess I'm in the minority.

Now, for those NOT on the poll, my top 5 basses........ (in order)
Jim Stewart
Tim Riley
James "Big Cheif' Wetherington
Jeff Pearles
Calvin Runion

MAYBE switch Calvin or Jeff Pearles for George Younce/ Jeff Chapman/ Chris West. I'm still undecided on that.
It's unfortunate that, of the living ones, only Jeff Chapman is currently with a group that gets constant national recognition. SOOOOOOOOOO many great basses have been/ still are on the stage.

You better go hear Aaron live when you can. He is so much stronger and better with Gold City without a doubt.

I like Mike Holcomb and Eric Bennett the best on the list, but next year I'm voting for Ray Reese

Gene McDonald is the only one that did it for me. Basses that growl and grunt below the staff just dont excite me much(as a Bass and a Fan). In my opinion, JD Sumner was the best at that sort of thing, and there wont be another JD. Big Chief was also amazing. Gene McDonald could go up high and down low with ease, so he gets my vote.

Once again, I'll mention Jim Stewart This man NEEDS TO BE IN THE SGMA HALL OF FAME !

I heard the Pine Ridge Boys yesterday, and once again, I'm absolutley in awe listening to the vast amount of raw power and talent that God has allowed one person to posess.
Best of all, (you might be a southeren gospel fan if..................) I was totally thrilled to sit on stage during both of their sets and run their soundtracks for them.
George Younce said on the farewell video "I'VE SUNG WITH SANDY PATTY! I'VE SUNG WITH SANDY PATTY!"
I'm even more elated to say "I'VE BEEN ON STAGE WITH JIM STEWART!!!! I'VE BEEN ON STAGE WITH THE PINE RODGE BOYS!!!!!!!!"

Thank you Sir! I love it here! I tried to post when I was in Iraq, but not once in the 3 years that I spent there did the server allow me on. Ironic,... guys could go to dating sites, lewd sites, but I couldnt get on Singing news.

So, ive got a lot to read! I kept up with it regularly before I went.

Ok so my top 5 didn't make the list this year. There is always next year!! These are my nominations for next year
1 Gene McDonald
2 Ian Owens
3 Mike Allen
4 Larry Strickland
5 Will Lane
These are current bass singers. My list is longer if I list the ones now in Heavens choir.

Hidee,
From this list I voted for Eric Bennet. He is hard to beat. However, I believe the Top Bass Singer travelling today is Gerald Williams of The Melody Boys Quartet from Little Rock, AR. He is an incredible vocalist who happens to sing in the bass range. Gene McDonald is my second favorite.

I think Gayla is correct. Mr. Williams sets the standard by which other bass singers of today should be judged. Lovely solo voice, superb quality throughout his range, and the ability to make any group he's a part of sound better.

I voted for Aaron McCune. My No. 1 choice for bass is Jeff Chapmen from the Kingdom Heirs. Also, there's some real good videos of Aaron on youtube where he shows his funny side.
Aaron also got my vote. But I would have to 2nd the Jeff Chapman choice. He was the first bass that raised my son's eyebrow.

You might be a Southern Gospel fan if...everytime you watch that video you think to yourself "Sandi Patti should be walking off saying I'VE SUNG WITH GEORGE YOUNCE! Instead of vice versa". I know that's what I think everytime I watch it.

Of course, I usually skip the Sandi Patti songs altogether, so I guess that really makes me a Southern Gospel fan.

SHAME ON ME!!!!!!!! I totally forgot about Gerald Williams.
But when local radio NEVER PLAYS groups of this caliber like THE MELODY BOYS, (but that's a topic for another day) and since I've never seen them live, it's hard to constantly keep in mind how good he is.
So let me re-organize my list to include him.
Jim Stewart
Gerald Williams
Tim Riley
"Cheif"
Jeff Pearles
