That's a wrong attitude, though. Perhaps you ought to show him that his body is nothing to be ashamed of (and neither is yours).

Good for you 2Jmom, I have often wanted to start some sort of exersize routine for myself and children. Just to get them in some good health habits. So far, it happens pretty spuratic here, so good for you! I know adding another thing to the day can get pretty tricky. I wish you the best.

I just took DD1 for new leader training for AWANA and picked up the registration forms for the other two kids.
THey are on scholarship for their dues but this year I have to buy their handbooks. Plus DD1 is a leader now so she needs a new uniform. Leaders in training also have to do a handbook so that's 3 books and a uniform.
Good news:

1. They had a used leader's shirt that will fit DD1 for half price. Originally they thought they wouldn't have one small enough. This is a medium so it's a little big but with another shirt underneath: especially in winter. It will be fine.

2. They had a handbook there that someone had bought and wrote their name in but never used. They colored a picture in the intro but never passed a section and the important parts of the book are unused and it looks brand new. It is the one DS needs and I can have it for free since someone already paid for it.

I am irritated about one thing. There was a disagreement 2 years ago when DS started Sparks because I said he was in 1st grade but because of when his birthday is they said he had to be in kindergarten. I've accepted it because it just makes it easier for him to get everything done that he's can. However, when I filled out the form I hated putting 2nd grade down for his grade. I feel like I'm lying. He's in 3rd grade. Third grade starts a new club so I could probably put him up in 3rd grade but then he would miss on the awards and last year of Sparks. Most of the time it doesn't bother me because I made peace with it 1.5 years ago. I don't agree with the decision but I can accept it.

I hear you, Jen. I'm just picking my battles. If Joe is willing to exercise with me at home, we'll both benefit. When he was in group sports, he tended to dog it. If he couldn't be first, he made sure he's last by a loooong way. Most of the time he sat on the bench. At this point I'm concerned about his health. He's already having issues with his knees and is very easily winded. Working at home, we can gradually keep increasing our stamina. As long as he's moving and putting in an effort, I'm happy.

I was actually saying that your own body issues come through and have likely been passed down. Health doesn't depend on your size, and neither does worth. The things I hear you saying are very much the mass-media 'thin is healthy, fat is not, and if you are fat it's because you are lazy' party line. I don't think you even realize it, though, which is why I said something. But I'm a bit of a health-at-every-size activist, lol.

OK, I reread what I wrote and understand what you're thinking. I'm not embarrassed to exercise around other people because of my size, it's because of my lack of fitness. I think that's Joe's concern too. I tend to push myself too hard in group classes and end up hurt. Joe tends to just give up. That's why I think it's better for him to build up some stamina at home first. He's a lot like me and may never be a team sport type of person, but I want him to find a way to push himself physically. Does that make sense?

I wasn't ashamed of my body because of the way I looked. I was ashamed because I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing. I was also ashamed at my lack of balance and flexibility. My goals aren't to look a certain way in a swimsuit. They are to be able to cut my toenails and breathe at the same time, do physical work without getting dizzy, or stand on one leg and not be wobbly. I'm pretty close to some of those goals.

Totally off of the previous subjects discussed here.
But it's a it overcast, we've had some rain, and it feels like Fall, and we have a vanilla and clove scented candle burning. It's a cozy feeling.
Fall makes me feel good! (even if it's just a rare fall-like day in August---tomorrow it's supposed to be 81).

The weather has been great lately, hasn't it, Bagel?

Nate and I just watched an Engineering an Empire episode. Cool show! I am going to make a mini-unit study out of this one..it's on Carthage and I never learned ANYTHING about Carthage in either public school or either college I attended! I have been totally gypped, lol. We may have to keep the disk for weeks since we didn't even bother with China or the other episode on there yet.

Dh and I are watching "John Adams". I can already tell, not a show to let my kids watch. Maybe when they're adults.

Really? How so? My grandfather loaned me a copy of the book but I haven't gotten to it yet.

Part of the nuclear reservation, which is on the refuge that is managed by the office I used to work for, fell into the Columbia river today.

Yikes!

Well I don't know how the book is, but there is some (though not much so far) and early one some men were shot and laying in pools of blood. My daughter might be able to handle watching it, but my son would definitely be a bit overstimulated. And because of how he is, he'd be a bit bored by the non action scenes

Ooops.

OK, whoever's praying for dh and I to agree on a car, keep it up! We went shopping today and actually found something we both like. Dh was a lot more realistic about what we will have to spend than I feared he'd be. I had a really nice salesman at one dealership try to subtly pressure me into buying a new car (nope, sorry, not gonna happen, even though he was a heck of a nice guy and we grew up in the same area, so we prob'ly coulda chatted all day) and wasted time at a few places that just didn't have anything I wanted, but then we stopped at this little independent lot and found a very comfy car with pretty low milieage at right around what we expected to pay. Gotta talk to the bank tomorrow and then we will see, but I will most likely have to keep the rental a bit longer because I don't know that I would actually have the car in my possession before next week.

Meanwhile, back at the mechanic's, one of the guys who works there bought my car - the one I thought threw a rod, but it actually broke a piston clear in half - because he has one like it and will use mine for parts. The other guy bought the other car because he wants to compete in a demo derby on Saturday. So both cars are disposed of and I have enough cash to put down on something else. Works for me.

Oh for goodness sake. You sound just like TL. She loves this horrid weather. I want the summer back and I want it now or I'm moving to New Mexico or ... something...

Dh is out of town. Mr. Manly is staying with his best buddy. TL passed her hunter's safety course and (gulp) is now legal to carry a firearm hunting this year. I'm going to take the course with our other daughter next year. She will be legal to carry a firearm, but I will not allow it until she is fourteen. Next year, Mr. Manly go hunting, which means I can go too. I haven't gone since TL was born. The last time I hunted, I was five months pregnant with TL.

Well, I am not sure. The news article I read said 'they' had been expecting it for 20 years now. I found that interesting. We have had several odd things happen around here lately, and I am waiting to hear that we have actually had earthquakes or something. A canal broke, this incident, and a huge sinkhole popped up (or, I guess, popped down?) in the middle of one of our roads.

Anyway, the river has a lot of silt in it right now, so probably no good for swimming!

It might be alright for young teens and older. I don't know if Mr. Manly would want to sit through it or not. My son probably wouldn't.

In the first 5 minutes of the movie someone hollered out a swear word. So far, I haven't heard anymore

I will say though that the man was willing to put his position in the town on the line to see that justice was served, even if it didn't make him very popular.

Ok, a guy just was tarred and feathered and there was nudity in this movie. I definitely wouldn't let my daughter see it.

That's funny. Most male nudity is not sexual and so I don't mind it...because I only have boys! LOL Although Nate covers my eyes when Mel Gibson's rear end makes an appearance in Lethal Weapon. He also yells 'bleeeeeep' when Inigo Montoya swears in The Princess Bride.

He's a handy kid, lol.

well it wasn't a rear end being shown. And it's not an image that I think that my 12 year old should have imprinted on her mind at this time.
I will say that even though I know it was all acting, that kind of thing went on back then and I actually felt really sorry for the guy getting tarred

Oh, I don't blame you at all! Just thought it was funny the difference between raising daughters and raising sons. Although, depending on context, female nudity doesn't always bother me. That in The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, for instance--a medical exam and breastfeeding.

But just the commercials on Spike is a large part of why we have to TV!

Oh I know what you mean! My kids like to watch "Star Trek:Voyager" (yes, we're sort of "Trekkies") and it's on Spike and several times commercials come on where we have to change the channel. Most of the shows that we watch are on TLC. I don't know how many babies my kids have seen born or nursing on that channel.

Speaking of TLC, now that the dvd is over, Dh turned it back to TV and a show about the Duggar family is on.

Annie - GREAT news about Noah's eyes!!!

Cindy - so glad the car issues seem to be working out! Still praying!!

Bagel - we've been watching Voyager too! My brother taped ALL the episodes for us, because we don't have cable. Guess I'm glad now that we only get a blip of a commercial now & then! He's also taping Deep Space Nine & Enterprise for us (along with Myth Busters)!

I did get the freezer defrosted & cleaned out yesterday! It took a LOT longer than the manual said it would! I still have to put all the applesauce back out there! I didn't do much of anything else yesterday & I am feeling a bit overwhelmed this morning. Dd & I have eye doctor appointments this morning & are going to the commissary afterward. I need to get menus & a list together along with sorting through coupons. I don't mind shopping or even doing the list, but I get so frustrated trying to figure out what meals to serve. I used to have a rotating menu & really need to take the time to sit down & put one together again. Then there's school - haven't even done anything about that yet. We may end up waiting until after Labor Day to start, but we're going up to BILs that weekend, so I have to get things set up BEFORE then and that Tues is our 1st MOPS day, so not my ideal day to start on! The kids are hoping we won't start next week. I think they've enjoyed this week of having no where to go & nothing set to do, KWIM? It has been a busy summer! Maybe we do need the downtime before everything starts up full force again. OK - now I'm rambling, but it's helping me get perspective on things!

I must of received the wrong "John Adams" because when we started watching it I was bored to death! BUT, I do remember we had a hard time settling down to really get into it. The kids were loud and it was bad timing to start the movie. I mailed it back to Netflix before we ever watched.

Noah has a dentist appt. today. Since it is a new dentist, I have a feeling they will just look and set up the appt to sedate an fix his tooth later.... but I'm hoping they will get it all done today because I'm getting sick of going to appt. everyday. DD1 has ortho. appt. tomorrow. Then, we get a break for a week. If the appt. were in this town it would be a little easier, but I have to drive 30 min. one way.
