we've been watching Voyager too! My brother taped ALL the episodes for us, because we don't have cable. Guess I'm glad now that we only get a blip of a commercial now & then! He's also taping Deep Space Nine & Enterprise for us (along with Myth Busters)!

Dh also likes Enterprise and he likes "ST: The Next Generation". He never could get into DS9. I've seen Mythbusters a few times and for as interesting as those are, my favorite show on the Discovery Channel is "How It's Made"

Nate recently finished watching the entire Voyager series from beginning to end! He isn't a DS:9 fan so we haven't done those, but the library in yakima had a lot of TNG that we watched when we lived there.

We check out the Star Trek DVD's from the library for Dh to watch. Unfortunately, our library doesn't have a full series set. So it's sort of sparse. They do have plent of "I Love Lucy" which we check out for the Fridays that my MIL is with us.

Lately, I've been getting "Green Acres" on DVD for Dd as she just LOVES that show.

Okay, I am bummed. The dentist is pro-breast feeding. But, said I should wean him, at least at night. My question is, is he breastfeeds to fall asleep for naps, should I wean for that, also?? Oct. 1st they will fix his teeth. He was border line bothering with the teeth, if it wasn't for two obvious places where decay is taking place he wouldn't of bothered, he would of just had us brushing more and using flouride more. This is going to be VERY hard to wean him to his own bed and from breast feeding.

We started school last week. It is going pretty good. I have also taken up running (thanks to Hazel). I am doing amazingly good for someone who has NEVER ran before! I have even lost 3 pounds! i am thrilled! On top of that, we bought an old canoe last weekend and I have been out in it 3x since. This is turning out to be a wonderful summer after all.

The boys are out blueberry picking right now. I hope they have a good time.

I am making a Phineas and Ferb cake right now for Timothy's birthday that we are celebrating today. He is also getting a new drum and we made him a workshop for his projects.

You could continue to co-sleep for a while.

We are not starting until after Labor Day. I did not get the curriculum order until yesterday. (It should come next week.) I did not want to order it before we left for vacation and have it come while we were gone.
We have been SO lazy and un-structured this summer, it is scary! With the move and basically camping in the rental house...
I finally got our stove yesterday! I cooked a "real" dinner for the first time in three months! I threatened to make DS wear a tie to dinner, as we have had so many "cookout" nights, that it's like we forgot how to sit down and eat like a family! Yikes!

can I just say that I am very glad for the maturity in this folder...unlike some certain other places where maturity is seen as a "clique" or as "you are different then me so I will read disdain into your post even if it's not there".....uuughhhhh....gets really old. At least here though the differences are not downed or used as fuel for someone to get mad at the whole folder. I really appreciate that and wanted to tell everyone that I do...so thank you all for being mature adults.

Casa Misa Home Cookin' restaurant!

We won't be starting the new school year until the week after Labor Day. Dh is taking his vacation during the week of Labor Day and when he's home, it's hard to get any schoolwork done, so I just decided to wait until he was back at work

I hear ya peculiar!!!! I try and stay away from the other folders.

Okay Jen... any tips on how to get him to sleep without breast feeding? Once I get him weaned, I wouldn't mind co-sleeping. But I don't think I can co-sleep again until he is weaned. He lifts my shirt and practically demands it. I tell him "no" and it works for a minute or two, but he gets pretty persistant.

LOL, I am not an expert. When I weaned Nate at night he screamed for two whole nights! And that was only so short a time because he'd cried every afternoon for a week when I day-weaned him, lol.

However, first I want to say that your dentist gave you advice, not an order. Secondly, I would actually still do the naptime and bedtime weanings and just cut out the after-he's-already-been-asleep feedings (is he still cluster-feeding at night and not eating much in the daytime?). If nursing is actually causing the decay, then it's the nursing when he's nearly asleep (and so he isn't swallowing) that is doing it. If the milk doesn't sit there on the teeth there shouldn't be a problem.

As for how to deny him...unfortunately it might just be very unhappy for both of you for a bit. I might offer more in the daytime to compensate...hard to say since I am not there!

Oh, totally forgot the rest of my answer, lol...

Well, with Schuyler, who of course I didn't nurse but still had to put to sleep, I had a four-poster bed, and I would lay down next to her, hook my toes around a post, and jiggle the bed. Unfortunately, I know catch myself jiggling the bed when I am the only one in it! LOL

Also, back pats or tummy rubs, stroking the forehead, and for Brandon, rubbing the feet, also worked for all three of mine.

And, I think when Nate was weaning I probably did a lot of, 'I'm so sorry, kiddo, but...' whining back! LOL

I also sang the 'night-night song' quite a lot for both of my kids. That's the lullaby from Peter Pan and for some reason they always wanted to hear it. Also you can repeat the bridge and chorus as many times as necessary, lol.

Sarah, I know what you mean, and I am so glad you are part of this forum.

Well, it's done. My little girl is off to college.

Her dorm room is pretty, her roomie is also smart and serious about life, so it looks like it's all going to be awesome.

The best part: Since college is only 30 minutes away, she wants to come home Saturday night and go to church with us Sunday.

That's my girl!

Sarah,

You already know how my little excursion to the other side of the boards went- not well! I pretty much just stay over here too.

I love how accepting of others all these opinionated home schoolers are!

Hi all
We are so lazy today still trying to figure out a schedule where the house doesn't look like a bomb exploded and we don't do school from 9 until 5:30 and only get two subjects done. So today I asked the kids what they think we could do to make it work better and they said set a timer for a certain amount of time. I had to giggle wonder if they are reading my Fly-Lady emails who sometimes makes me feel even worse then the bomb exploding look. OK wow sometimes I can really ramble. Sorry that is the one down side is that I don't get much adult conversation except on Wednesday and Sunday.

Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the day.

Misaham YAY for cooking. I don't know who told the kids they should eat 3 times a day and have snacks to.

So, what forum is 'problem' now?? Sometimes I like to go into them, just to see what it's about. Usually, people's opinions drain me, so I don't say in there long.

There was a conversation in Current Events that spawned hard feelings and a thread in Women Only.

A man, who I guess is my landlord's partner of sorts, came to my door. He wanted to hire Brandon. I told him Brandon was going to be gone for four months, so he took Nate instead, lol. He starts tomorrow morning at 9, helping refinish a house just like ours but on the other end of the block. He's getting paid well, too--six bucks an hour! Tomorrow is their 'trial day' and then if they are both happy, he'll be back at it next week.

The bomb exploding look isn't working for you?

I am totally at peace with the bomb exploding look.

I know there are other better organized people out there with a lower tolerance for clutter than I have, but I haven't yet been able to live a full, productive day of home schooling and have a showcase home at the end of the day.

And I've been homeschooling for twelve years!

To me it is a successful day if we have accomplished at least four out of five objectives:

Learned something new
Built godly character
Strengthened family bonds of love
Eaten decent meals
Checked off all the little boxes in my daily planner

So keeping a clean house isn't even on my list! In fact, when mine were little, I helped out another home school mom in need of ready cash by hiring her to clean my house once a week. Ah, those were the days!

Yeah, lots of convenience food, processed food, not good. Now I just need to hit the grocery store but have a headache for the second day in a row and don't even want to take a shower! Ick!

The other day I said, 'Oh, I just got hungry all of a sudden!' and Nate said, 'Yeah, that happens to me, too. Basically I get up in the morning and it hits me and it doesn't go away all day long!' LOL

I'm really ready for my son's bedtime to be here and for him to go to bed..........and it's only 12:35! This kid is full of questions, of which he knows about 99 percent of the answers already.

I received a letter from our local ESD saying that due to Ds's low test scores, that he'll need to be tested at the end of next year instead of waiting until the year after that. He has aspergers and he needs help that we really can't afford now. Dh won't be happy to be sure. If his test scores aren't at "grade level or at least one level higher then "you may be required to place his/her education under the supervision of a person holding a teaching license whom you have selected". Lovely!

I keep telling my kids that I could cut back a whole day a week at work if they wouldn't insist upon eating several times a day.

Brandon, Jesse, and Erin decided to spend the night at my best friend's with her kids. It's gonna be so quiet in my house today . . . and I am at work.

I didn't know OR homeschool law was like that. How ridiculous. Do they take kids who are below grade level in public school and make them report to a homeschooler of their choice? Good grief.
