Well it's the first time bmx is in the Olympics. Next Olympics they'll have their rivalries established. I don't know if I like it, seems like its based a lot on chance. They have some guts flying off those hills though.

I did not get to see the BMX. I did watch the road race, and some of the indoor bike track events.
Another thing is so many people compete for countries they don't live in, but maybe have dual citizenship due to birth. Perhaps they have a better chance of making the Slovakian team than the US team, even though they have lived their lives in the US.

The Aussies (her lot) always top the Brits (my lot) on the medals table. That hasn't happened this year and there's more than the odd sour grape around on their side. Just teasing Nicole (and any other Aussie!) ~ my opportunity to do so may not happen for another 4 years or so!
I think whatever country (or countries) we support, we should be incredibly proud of our competitors.
As one said today (apologies for bringing what a guy said into the discussion) 'We're all Olympians!' That means something. They are amongst the best in the world and we seem to find it very easy to criticise when they don't bring home the gold medal (or any). They guy, by the way, he was a Brit and he didn't win a medal, but he's still an Olympian.

Aga I honestly didn't know that the Aussies always topped the Brits, to me you guys are our sister country anyway so I would want you to do well, same with Canada, any of the Commonwealth countries... Not to offend any other country, I love ya all, but we all share the Queen and stuff 
I am not sour about it, I say "Well done to everyone". There are probably some, but I think any country would be like that... anyway moving on now.

Canada Emilie Heymans did amazingly in the 10m platform diving. She held her cool while the crowds went wild for the Chinese women. I've never seen her dive so well!!! Amazing!

That would be me I love watching everyone, and the winners (countries) in the end aren't nearly as important as examples of tenacity, beauty, and sportsmanship with the entire world watching. I also find it REALLY neat to see how many countries there are on the medals list- it may be only one or two medals, but to see a 'less strong' country right up there with the others is really cool to me. Some countries have economic, educational, and historical advantages, but those who don't still succeed, through good old fashioned hard work.

Sarah Stevenson. She took bronze in the +67kg taekwondo today.
She landed a 2 point kick on her Chinese opponant but it wasn't seen by judges in the quarter-finals and she lost on the opportunity to go further. She was upset immediately afterwards, but stood her ground that the kick had been good and the match should have been hers.
An appeal was asked for ~ and won it ~ something that is unprescidented in the sport. Fifteen or so minutes later she was back, fighting the next round, which sadly she didn't win ~ she was upset, who can blame her and the crowd (mostly Chinese) were not happy with her for knocking their champion out. An hour later, she took the bronze.

When I was growing up I very badly wanted to go to the Olympics in the Equestrian events. Sadly, this year I didn't get to see any of them. In fact, haven't been seeing much of them at all. :(
