I don't know why, but I thought about this when I was posting about Shadowlands in another thread - but there seem to be certain movies to which men (generally) react one way, and women (generally) react another. (Not that Shadowlands is neccesarily one of these)

In fact, as a man, I would have to say there are movies I enjoy that my wife and women friends don't 'get', and those that they think I and my guy friends don't 'get'.

Now before someone posts it, I want to say I know that there are exceptions and we should be careful not to stereotype, etc, etc, - which is why I said 'generally'. We will assume there are exceptions whenever something is listed.

Two movies are on the list for me - the first is Groundhog Day, which very few women I know seem to either enjoy or have 'a-ha!' moments during, and Field of Dreams, which despite Kevin Costner's recent downward spiral, is a great movie, the end of which I think more deeply moves men than it generally does women - any additions?

My wife and I didn't really see eye-to-eye on Pursuit of Happyness.

"Groundhog Day" is in my top 10 list, definitely, and I am, definitely, a woman.

As for movies I did not like that my hubby did, the only one I can think of that was a gigantic dud was "Mr. Deeds" with Adam Sandler and Winona Ryder.

My wife and I usually see eye to eye on most movies. I don't think she is quite the Star Wars and Star Trek fan that I am, though.

Women just don't get "The Godfather". Even the ones that say they do, don't.

On the other hand, I thought "28 dresses" was a colossal waste of time, two hours out of my life that I'm never going to get back, and even Kathryn Heigl was not enough to redeem it.

My wife cannot fathom why I think that Blade Runner is a great movie.

I, on the other hand, cannot understand what she sees in The Sound of Music.

I like The Sound of Music; I hated 28 Dresses. Actually, I didn't even finish watching that.

What's not to get about The Godfather?

Still waiting to hear who had the problem with Pursuit of Happyness...

I like both chick flicks and action movies. So I don't really see where there's a gender difference except in romantic comedies. I don't like those overly girlish movies either like Sex in the City.

I loved the Godfather.

Oh and most men don't like musicals.

The disagreement revolved around the way that Will Smith and his on-screen wife handled the struggles they were facing and what should or should not have been said or done. It paralleled, to a degree, some things in our own life that are still a bit touchy.

No matter how much we argue, me and my father cannot convince my mother and my sister that Predator is far superior to Alien.

Let's see here.

I like Groundhog Day a lot. Dh thinks it's okay.
You have to grow up in the right family to like Field of Dreams or The Natural. My family adores those movies. Dh only thinks they're okay.
We both liked the Godfather.
Neither one of us thought 28 Dresses was worth seeing.
Blade Runner is a disappointment if you've read the book first.

There's probably some merit in the musicals comment. Dh has a lot of problems with any musicals, although both my brothers will watch Flower Drum Song, The King and I, and Oklahoma with me and my mom and my sister won't.

One thing I will admit not getting are the Naked Gun movies. Dh can go watch those with his male friend. I just don't find them that funny. Mildly funny at best and I do like physical comedy.

I think The Christmas Story is hysterical! My entire family watches the 24-hour marathon every Christmas.

Ok, it's pretty hilarious how you guys don't pay much attention to chick flicks. You're all calling it "28 Dresses"... It was only 27. But I'm a girl and I hated that movie anyways. haha!

Ok, while I enjoyed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I did not think that it was nearly as funny as women did at all.

Also, I was the one who said that The Princess Bride was just ok as well.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was one of the stupidest films I've ever seen throughout my life.

I will if you admit that The Princess Bride is the best movie ever made.

Now, I just cannot do that at all. Now the movie Spaceballs or Monsters Inc. on the other hand...

Haha! I cried at the end of Monsters Inc.

That's why I can't stand most chick flicks. I cry too easy, and I can't enjoy a movie if I cry all through it.

True, and I loved it even though I bawled right at the end. haha!

There's just something about Sulley's face when you hear the little girl say "Kitty!" that tugged at mah heart strings. ...
