mods, I know this could go in parenting but I don't want people I don't really know to comment too much like they would there, so I am putting it in here and asking that it please stay (pretty please!!!!) ok...in a few weeks we are going to do family pics. The last time we had them done was when we only had two kids, and they were last minute pics so we really weren't "dressed" for them. Since then we have done pics of the kids but never had the opportunity to do the whole family....so we are taking that opportunity now to do so. Here are the questions I have in regard to them though...... first, pic style. what style of pic do you all think is nice looking? more formal or more casual? second, clothes. we will probably do jeans on everyone because we all have them (maybe jean skirts for all the girls...not sure yet, depends on the shirt and pic style). For shirts...I always likes pics with everyone in matching shirts, so I was thinking of all in white "dressy" type shirts. Paul thinks it sounds too plain though...your thoughts? If we don't do all matching shirts then I want to do girls in one color and boys in another color. thoughts? third, hair. the boys are getting their hair cut in a regular boys hair cut (I usually just buzz it all off at home in the summer, but with winter coming soon they will need it a bit longer soon anyway, so this time I will pay someone else to fight them...lol). the girls I will trim up a bit, but their hair will probably be pulled up somehow (otherwise it falls in their eyes too easily). Paul of course shaves his head bald. So really the question is about my hair. I wanted to grow it out for a while, and it was going good (it is not just past my shoulders), but it is starting to get frizzy and hard to deal with overall, so I was thinking of cutting it again. I like it either long or short, so it really doesn't matter to me. I mostly wanted it long enough to pull back while in labor, so now that that is over with I don't "need" it long anymore. My favorite length was HERE...that was what it was last September. thoughts?

We just had our family pictures redone before Rob left. You can see our picture on my blog (see below). For my family I've always picked more casual pictures because that represents our family better, I think that may be the case for you as well. I reserve formal pictures for formal events when we already have a reason to be dressed up (like when Rob and I went to the Submarine Ball). - shirts. I like the all white them but I can't pull off white (too pale) and neither can Zion me thinks. This family picture I chose my shirt first (because I'm hardest to fit), then I went around JC Penney and chose shirts for everyone else that coordinated with the color. For photos you want to stay away from prints and too many colors, especially loud colors. We did let Gabe have on broad stripes but only him. The family picture before that I chose dark grey sweaters for me, Rob and Gabe (all different sweaters but the same color) and then chose a pink sweater for Zion. Both because she was the newest member at six weeks old and it helped her to stand out and because I couldn't find a grey sweater in her size. :) - hair. I like your hair in that picture. I would go with what makes you feel nice. I had my hair long in my photo and I liked it OK but then had it cut really short and highlights put in and now I'm a wee bit sad that I didn't have the cut done before the pictures. Oh well. Good luck! Will love to see them when they're done.

I like casual style. Why don't you all wear fall colored shirts in rich cranberry, chocolate brown, and burnt orange? Not all the same color or style, but a beautiful pallette of colors. I like the white shirt pictures, but that has been done so much. Your hair- it doesn't matter if you cut it or not, IMO. I think it looks good either way for your face shape... however, it you are feeling it is too frizzy and keep it long, invest in a quality hair product to control the frizz. I have wavy hair, and for me frizzy or not is all about how I style it, not the length. That's why I'm of the opinion that the length doesn't matter if you style it. Length only matters when you can't be bothered to style it or use products. I agree with Julie, though that if you are going to change hairstyle soon anyhow, that you would probably prefer to go ahead and change the style so your pic represented the near-future you.

I don't want a "dark" picture...do you think that would be too dark? I will also have to see what fall type colors the kids have or need and what I can find for me cause I have nothing decent for pics except maternity stuff, and that I am a little tired of wearing. quote:

Length only matters when you can't be bothered to style it or use products. there are a few other things I don't like about it being longer.....it comes out too much and drives me (and the vacuum) crazy...it's hard to brush (I broke the girls brush the other day cause I couldn't find mine after I washed it)...it stays tangly no matter what I put in it or how much I brush it. That's mostly why I cut it to begin with...plus it's just so hot. Every time I get it to this length I remember why I like it shorter...lol. I am still trying to decide if I want to grow it out longer or not though...I hate this in between stage it's in right now. Once it is a few inches longer it is much easier because the weight keeps the frizz down. ahhhhhhhhh....decisions decisions...I HATE having to make them!!!!!!!!!

Well, you all know what I do with my family pics based on my avatar. Actually, we do pics every Christmas and for the family pic, I try to dress in colors that compliment eachother and have them do a neutral background. I try to keep my girls hair simple. Either pulled back all the way, or just their bangs out of their face. For your hair, if you want to keep it, but are worried about the frizzies, just trim your ends, and for the next few nights, before you go to bed, put a bit of conditioner in your hair and let it stay all night. That might be enough to add moisture and smooth your hair out before the pics. I had to do that to my hair when I took the flat iron to it too much and it was starting to look dry and frizzy. You may just need to simply hydrate it a bit. You don't need to buy leave in conditioner, and you don't need to use alot. Just enough to cover your hair, but it doesn't feel greasy. and if you want, put a towel over your pillow when you sleep so it doesn't get into your pillowcase. As for the white shirts, if you decide on that, a black background might look awesome. Otherwise, just find solid colored shirts that compliment eachother. Maybe one color for the girls, and another for the boys.

I have never seen family shots where people where the same colour. No offense, but IMO sounds kind of boring and corny. I prefer to be wearing what suits the person best. So Sarah if red suits you, then wear that, if you know that Paul looks great in brown then wear that. I like casual shots too, formal is for like weddings and graduations.

LOL I always forget there are more than like 4 in your shot. We had a family pic done with hubby's family a few years ago, there is 10 of us. And it just worked out so cool that the boys were wearing bluish colours and the girls were wearing browns!! It looks really good, the blue and brown together.

Did you happen to peek at my family's picture? Just as an example of everyone wearing the same color palette instead of the same color. I think the babies might get lost if you are all wearing just white. You can always do a test run if you all have white shirts and just take a regular picture and see what you think. I do something like the white shirts with blue jeans. I've seen it quite a bit, you mentioned that didn't bother you, and it can look crisp, clean and uncomplicated.

I generally prefer casual, candid shots. I'm not one for too posed, but family photos usually are. yeah I like candid shots too...or if not candid, well set up shots (like a lot of what Ez does with her pics) quote:
I like the white shirt thing, and don't find it boring. Sure, it's overdone, but that's because it looks good. that's what I am thinking. Plus like Julie said, they look crisp, clean and uncomplicated. quote:
I'd put the littlest two in something else... denim shirts would be cute... just so they'd pop a bit. hmmmm...that's an idea. Have to go to a few store and see what kind of shirts their baby sections have Nicole, I missed your post before.....yeah it's much different with four then it is with like 7 or 10...lol. btw, someone mentioned Christmas pics. These I want to just be general family pics...we will do Christmas pics with the kids later on.

Hey Sarah, We did Christmas pics last year. Our son wore a red shirt while DH and I wore black. I guess you could say we did the "make the kid pop" thing. LOL.... I think we were all wearing blue jeans, but you can't tell with the way the pictures were done. DH & DS wore the same style of shirt so I think we tied things together decently. They're not overly fancy because they portray us! J's red shirt looks SO nice against the black background in the pic where he's by himself because it really shows HIM off. I've seen the white shirts with blue jeans/skirts done. It looks rather nice with a woodsy greenery background IMO. I think you've been getting some good ideas though! As far as hair, I really like the way your hair is cut & styled in the pic you'd posted from last September. That style looks really nice on you. My DH would shoot me if my hair was that short If you have questions about which of my family pics I'm talking about, check out my Facebook page as I have them uploaded there.

Sarah, I like the idea of all you wearing the white shirts. Just make sure the background isn't white too. LOL. I saw a pic like that once and it looked like legs and heads. LOL. I also like the idea of using the same color scheme. Remember the pics my family took? I wore red, Timmy wore orange, Jimmy wore yellow and Robert wore burnt orange and the background was bornw. I think you ought to cut your hair too because if it's frizzy, those super duper cameras will make it show up, unless you can ask them to photoshop it. If I can find one, do you want a Sears or Picture People coupon? I get them in my Parents magazine all the time.
