ORIGINAL: isaacsmom (Julie, I love your new haircut, saw it on your blog!) Thanks. It looks a bit different now because in those pictures it had been flatironed by the stylist and I don't have time to do it to the same extent. But I actually like it a little better not quite so straightened. Sarah, if we lived close, I would do your pictures. I did my sister's family one year and did a friend's VERY CASUAL beach wedding. But I am fortunate that one of the lady's in my MOPS group does photography for a living and she did ours. We went to a local nursery that has such beautiful grounds and did them there. The only drawback was the time of day we chose that was conveniently avoiding the kids' naptimes but put us right in the hot sun and harsh shadows. We had to be careful to find shady spots and it wasn't easy. Anyway, I like the overalls idea. I'm a sucker for babies in overalls though.

I would pic a color, (I am love blue! but that is me). I would say that since you have dark hair, you are going to want to use the lighter background. I think a white background, with a color shirt would look awesome. But the color would need to bright. Pastels might fade into the background. You could still do jeans and t-shirt, but I would not do white. It just hard to photograph.

Overalls would be super cute. I agree, your brother should not call himself an amateur! I'd love to pick his brain. His work is awesome.

I like the idea of a lighter background and maybe light blue shirts/denim dresses of some sort on the girls and a tan color on the boys on top and jeans/overalls on the bottom. (I love the light blue and pink you had on the girls in this shot it really does make their hair and sweet faces stand out.) I'd be worried about the baby(s) blending into the parent and being all head/legs if everyone was wearing white tops. And your hair- I like the short hair shot, it frames your face so lovely. ~e

Yeah, Sears is great. That's where we got ours done. You can also look at backgrounds and props on their website too. I found some Sears coupons. One is for "Free classic wall portrait" (10x13) which is normally 19.99. And, the other one is for "36 portraits only $9.99" (one 10x13, one 8x10, two 5x7, sixteen wallets, sixteen minis). No doubling up on the coupons they say. Want me to send them? They expire Oct 31 this year.

we talked to the lady and she showed me their studio areas (two studios there)....back drops, prices, etc. I think we will get the "bronze print set" so that we can get the cd of all the prints too...and she said with purchasing that we are buying the rights to reprint them on our own other places (like Wal-Mart, etc)...so that is excellent!!! They also have a great military discount...20% off!!! my hair....I asked Paul which he prefers and he wants me to grow it out, so I am going to leave it long for the picture...though maybe not down. quote:

They have to do 9 poses, and we can order up to 8 of them with out package....one will be the whole family, one just me and Paul...the others we are thinking about still.

ok...went today to find shirts and decided to change from white to something else. The only white shirts I could find were mostly t-shirts, and I didn't want something "that" casual looking...lol. So I found some cute shirts for the girls in brown and pink, and got brown and blue stuff for the boys (thanks for that idea Nicole ). Paul and I already have a blue (him) and pink (me) shirt to go with those...so that saved money. HERE are the "girls" shirts HERE are the "boys" shirts HERE is the whole family group and in case Jake wants to wear blue instead, HERE it is with a blue shirt he already had. I also took the boys to get their hair cut this morning...and let me just say..... ....that's how MAD I am right now!!!!! Even after me saying SEVERAL times for Jake's hair to be a "regular boys hair cut so it can be brushed over to the side on top" they did a high and tight. Luckily the guy left it long enough that Paul can take him to another place tomorrow and hopefully salvage the cut. However, Jackson's hair they BUTCHERED. Before even ASKING me what kind of cut I wanted, and when he was barely even in the chair, she immediately shaved off a section OF THE TOP...so by then there was nothing left that could be done except shave it ALL off...so now he has barely any hair...NOT what I wanted. Then when I told the lady that's not what I wanted she told me that she could fix it....ummm, no, but ok, whatever. I told her NO she COULDN"T fix it since I wanted to be able to brush it over to the side on the top....to which she told me "well, you can just spike it". I DON'T WANT TO SPIKE IT!!!!!!!!!! Then after me saying that she wanted to leave "bangs" on the front of it with everything else shaved...because according to her, then I could brush that to the side....now please tell me it's not just me that thinks this is stupid!!!! So anyway, we left with his whole head shaved down to the skin....I have NEVER cut it that short. I WAS MAD!!!!!!! (Still am). Not only that, but she was so rough with him that he has red marks all over his head and a cut on his neck from the razor cutters. . I purposely let the boys hair grow out for TWO MONTHS so I could get it cut the way I wanted it for the pics....TWO MONTHS!!!!! Plus this is the first picture we have really had taken of just our family since Hannah was a baby!!!!! uuuuggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am STEAMED!!!!!! I was thinking of just putting off the pics, but we had the perfect apt time (tuesday at 11am)...it's the only weekday Paul will be off so if we cancel we have to do a weekend and they are booked up for a while on nights and weekend apts. (Plus then we would be getting into the holidays, and more people so pics then). Anyway, Paul wants to go ahead and do the pics now and just ignore the hair thing....he is going to take Jake tomorrow to see if someone can salvage their butcher job they did on his hair.

Oh no Sarah....that's terrible! I love the clothes you picked out. Blues and browns for the boys and pinks and browns for the girls. Great idea!

Really like the outfits that you picked. I think the pictures are going to turn out great. I hope that the feelings about the hair don't linger though I know I would have a hard time getting over that. Since the staff continued to have poor attitudes about the situation I would take the complaint further. Hair dressers have to be licensed, therefore there is a licensing body that you could complain to. It's not even that she didn't understand what you wanted - she didn't even ask and that's awful. No hair dresser should do that.

How frustrating!! I'm glad you are not as angry and beginning to see the bright side, though... The shirts are super cute!! I love them all together and think they make a beautifult color pallette. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures, too.
