One last note from me. I read a book several years back, Transported By the Lion of Judah, that forever changed my life. It has to do with how God sees the Muslims and all the people who have never trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior. I highly recommend it.

I looked it up on Amazon and it got very good ratings, but no books are available. I'll google it and see if I can find it somewhere else. Thanks for the recommendation.

Edit: Found it! Ordered a copy!!!!

Thank you alabamafan and BibleBeliever for understanding my concern. I know as well as anybody that there are saved people in every religion. However, everybody knows that for the most part Muslims and Jew are not saved. Not because the are Muslim or Jew, but because they do not accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Thank you to those who wish to discuss this very important matter instead of discussing how I worded the title.

I am sure many who have followed Gaither, also know the Isaacs. Lily and her mother are both Jewish who accepted Christ as their Savior. I had the privilege to travel to Latvia and participate in a missions trip reaching the Jewish people to Christ. I was able to see many Jews come to Christ when presented with the life changing story. Messianic Jews who have accepted Christ as Savior still follow all the Jewish customs/holidays, etc. The only difference is they do believe Christ was Savior/Messiah.

I liked what 88keys had to say in their post. We have to think outside our insulated American box. Christ becomes real to anyone when he is revealed to them.

I think some confusion concerning converted Jews, muslims and even catholics at times, arises because of the dual nature those titles have. Not only do they refer to an established religion (with specific views, beliefs and customs), but they also refer to nationality, heritage and background. I am American and I am a christian. However, a person of jewish or muslim decent might answer the same for both questions. Because a jew gives their life to christ (and if you don't believe they can, then you don't believe in any of the disciples or Paul who continued to refer to themselves as Jews post Christ), they don't change their heritage, their background or their national customs (an american who gives their life to christ wouldn't be expected to stop celebrating the 4th of July). However, their beliefs toward christ, their behavior and their testimony must change. They start to act like christ...to be christ-like...to be a christian. We call them Messianic Jews to not strip them of their heritage, but they are still just people trying their best to portray christ in everything they do...they are christians. The same goes for other similar religions/nations. America is one of the only nations anymore who does not couple a religion with their national identity (we used to...but not anymore).

This is why I still stand by my initial statement, denominations are not the issue at hand (no matter how "funny" that statement might be). It is misconceptions about other religions that seem to be in focus here.

Video in question

For those that were curious about the song.

OK, I listened to the song (Thank you baritone for the link).

Now I can't wait to buy the DVD and CD and listen to it over and over.

chadoaksfan: In my opinion you are reading way too much into the lyrics of this song. I heard nothing in the lyrics to suggest that one who did not accept Jesus as their savior would be in Heaven. The lyrics mentioned a few people of different denominations and said they all want to go to Heaven.

Unless I missed it, there was no mention of Muslims at all. The only mention of a Rabbi was that one of the writer's hunting buddies had a father who was a Rabbi.

As to the thread title, some of us (me included) may be a little sensitive because there have been a couple of instances where folks have picked out one little song, or even a couple of spoken lines, and tried to expotentially expound it to argue that Bill Gaither supported or believed things that he clearly doesn't.

Bottom line, I agree with you in part and disagree in part, and there is nothing wrong with that, and I stand by my initial post in this thread.

In addition, while I feel that this:

quote:

Shouldn't a major focus of Southern Gospel music be leading people to the Lord? Hasn't it always been that way? Is it changing now?

is an appropriate and interesting topic for the SG folder, the matter of whether Jews or Muslims will go to Heaven is better left for discussion in the Theology folder, probably in Salvation Issues.

In your original post you posed the question "What do you guys think about this?" If you don't like the answers don't ask the question. Everyone seemed to be answering your question with their opinions according to how you word the title and question that's all. No harm no foul. Smiles everyone smiles. LOL

I wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I think if you guys should watch the video of this song. If you have already, watch it again. It is pretty clear that the song is implying that Muslims and Jews will be in Heaven. The premise is the Oprah-inspired universalist religion that is sweeping through the world. Apparently, by Gloria's involvment with the guy that wrote the universalist book, "The Shack", the Gaithers believe this as well. Averyfineline did a story on this in June and lots of things were discovered. Follow http://averyfineline.com/2008/06/25/slightly-ot-the-shack-and-gloria-gaither/ and read about it.

I don't intend to start another discussion here, but I have read "The Shack" and it is far from universalist in its teachings. I will agree that it will make you think out of the box, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? I would certainly recommend that you read it before you make any public conclusions about it. I first heard about it from Mark Lowry and thought it would be a great summer read, a light piece of fiction, but I will tell you that it truly revolutionized my thinking in so many ways. As a side note, it is also being heavily endorsed by James Robison and I have a huge amount of respect for him and his ministry.

FYI, there's a good thread on "The Shack" over in the Books section. You might enjoy reading all the comments.
