Yeah, I think the focus of being a friend instead of looking for others to be one for you is good. Making phone calls, or e-mails, etc is good. But if you are solely seeking a return for your investment, you are doing these things for self, and not for others. Don't grow weary of doing good.

Also, I agree with the above post that you are being hard on yourself. May I suggest your focus be on God's grace and forgiveness and to not condemn yourself. "For there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus." Accept his forgiveness and love. Blessings!

I just had a thought, how large is your congregation? My church has about 300 or so people, and I know it's not always easy to know who is there and who isn't. Unless I'm specifically looking for someone I might not even notice they're missing.
