Is it wise to base US energy policy on crossing one's fingers that more major pockets exist out there?

Of course not, which is why neither Party is doing so - both are commited to finding alternatives - only one though is stifling efforts to find more domestic sources of oil.

But that's really not the topic of this thread.

As long as oil remains the cheapest most efficient fuel available, it makes sense to place it at the top of any energy policy.

We have a little more going for us than simply "crossing our fingers". Exploration is the key. And Congress has been holding that key pretty tightly... which, IMHO, is the main cause of our current problem.

Well, this should make for an interesting RNC convention (provided they hold it as scheduled next week), and debate season in the weeks after.

One other strength, that despite all the talk of helping the 'woking class', Palin appears to be the only candidate that has been part of the working class - her husband and her were fishermen together, and her husband now works in the oil fields.

I think people will relate more to that than those who have spent most of their lives in office.

AND THE ONLY candidate (albeit VP) who has any top-ticket experience (top of state as compared to representing with many their state).

Also add that the Obamessiah has been described as a rock star and had women swooning at his earlier speeches. Now they're criticizing Sarah Palin because of her gender and good looks. Go figure!

What in the way of policy balance can Sarah Palin bring to McCain's ticket other than her gender and good looks?

In today's celebrity atmosphere, isn't that enough? Seriously.

And the fact that she seemingly carries her values higher than her posture is delightfully exciting to me.

Sarah Palin's speech was a brief, pleasant introduction, and her shout out to Hillary was interesting (although the crowd seemed taken aback by being asked to cheer for her).

However, Sarah will essentially be campaigning against Hillary, in addition to Obama and Biden.

Actually I was suprised by it, though I think it was clever - she is positioning herself as the rightful heir to Hillary's legacy as a woman.

Yeah, but Hillary's been in the national spotlight for years. Whether they like her or not, people know her.

Sarah Palin does not have that advantage.

To most Americans, she's a stranger, and will have little time to politically introduce herself to the nation.

I missed Sarah's speech. Is there a link somewhere?

I did not; in fact I'm now re-thinking not voting for McCain now. And since I would NEVER have voted for Hillary or Obama I guess I'll have to hold my nose and cross-over to The Libertarian Party, Bob Barr.

Actually, I believe the term is 'Washington outsider'; and in reality, Palin is the only candidate who can legitimately make that claim.

Come to think of it, if I were coaching her on how to handle Biden, I would have her preface statements with variations on the theme of, "While it's true I haven't been inside the Washington beltway since this Nixon administration...."

Excellent suggestion, Jack.

Now, if McCain and Palin win, I'll bet that in 2012, we'll have Sarah vs Hillary for the Presidency. In the meantime, Nancy Pelosi will be having kittens because she will be in line behind Sarah.

ALERT.....ALERT! First hot-ness reference right here! Way to go for being the first. You won't be the last....

and this will not hurt the campaign in the slightest.

'Scuse me...
I was the one to say she was darned good looking long before y'all jumped on the bandwagon.

Sorry, my friend, but "darned good looking" ain't the same as "hot."
