Has anyone heard of a Dutch clothing company called GSUS Sindustries?

There is an impressive V-neck sweater that they make, but I'm not sure if I should even consider purchasing it.

This is why; something tells me that the company is making a mockery of Jesus. Their logo is a crown of thorns.
The fact that it's called Gsus is not of concern to me. If they want to name their apparel such a name, they may do so.
But if the purpose of their name and logo is to make a mockery of Jesus and of believers, then I don't want any part of it.
If such is the case, it's rather disgusting.

Your thoughts, anyone?

I guess my priorities are a bit different in not wanting to spend boko money for some over-rated and over priced sweater. Can't you just buy a different kind of V-neck sweater that doesn't have you wondering about the company mocking Jesus/Christianity?

From their website...

quote:

Our brand name is a story in itself. With wordplay, gsus refers to one of the most common names in the world. The logo, the crown of thorns, emphasizes the ****liness of the clothing brand even further. Within a few years, from the time the first tees were introduced, gsus grows from clothing being sold out of the trunk of a car to an internationally available fashion brand. The collection and brand develop and grow without losing sight of those early stages of fun and creativity.

Some people may say otherwise, but it seems innocent enough. Certainly better than seeing Hamlet 2...
They may be having a bit of fun, but I wouldn't call anything they're doing disrespectful.

I took a look at their website, trying to find the part that Mr. Fribbles quoted. No such luck, but I did notice that they refer to their denim line as GsusOD so that it spells out god (the OD being for Original Denim). While I don't think they are evil and demonic, it does seem that they are definitely poking fun at faith/divinity/whatever you define it as.

Maybe we should poke fun at ourselves a little more often.

Humor is not a bad thing.

I agree with you that we should poke more fun at OURSELVES. I'll even defend their right to do so, but I'm not sure that poking fun at the Creator of the universe is wise and something we should support with our money.

Probably not. He wasn't big on spending lots of money on things that don't matter. But I doubt if He'd care much about the name.

You got it KatMack. There are some things that just aren't funny, and mocking God is one of them. We, on the other hand.............

Well, naming the company Gsus Sindustries. Yes, they say that it's the most common name in the world, but isn't that the Hispanic pronunciation of it (Hay-Zeus)? Why spell it in such a way that it's definitely pronounced as the Anglicized Jesus? Also, pairing it with SINdustries.

I can't help but wonder if their named mocked Muhammad or Vishnu if they would be quite so popular. I'm not sure about Dutch laws and culture, but I know in many European countries, this would be punishable if it were almost any other religious leader being used.

Their name is a complete oxymoron.

I don't have a problem with them naming their company Gsus. I do have a problem with them following that word up with SINdustries. I wouldn't buy anything from them.

I think that was sort of the point. : )
I still don't see anything that is directly mocking Christ. I once saw a moving company (I think?) named G.O.D. - which stood for Guaranteed Overnight Delivery. Would that also be considered mockery?

Normally I hate posts that merely quote scripture but sometimes that's the best answer...

Genesis 20:7- "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

So what constitutes a misues of God's name?

Honestly, if you can't see it, there's no point in attempting to explain.

How is calling your fashion company the name of our Lord and Savior and pairing it with Sin not using His precious name in vain?

In my understanding, the command to not misuse the Lord's name is not an issue of disrespecting the words involved. It has to do with keeping promises made in the name of God. If someone were to say, "With God as my witness, I will pay you back by Thursday!", and Saturday comes along and still no repayment, then you have misused God's name - you have used His name in vain. You have banked God's character on your statement, and then failed to follow through with it, thus making God's name (His character) look bad.
I don't see how naming a company something that I, personally, don't see as disrespectful (a bit irreverant, perhaps, but not disrespectful) equates to using His name in vain.

I see where you're coming from there. I think I'll do a little bit of study on the phrase "in vain" and make sure that I agree with you.

Even if it's not breaking of this commandment, it still smacks of disrespect and isn't something I'd want to support with my money.

Personally, I wouldn't support them with my money, but that's mostly because so much of it would be required. Those clothes are expensive, yikes!

Anyone with a modicum of spiritual discernment should be able to figure it out regardless of the articulation.

Hee hee. Hurray for insults! Nothing like building up a fellow brother/sister in the faith by... Oh, wait, no, that's just plain ol' tearing me down.
Next time, you might want to try "quantum." It sounds a lot cooler.

Anybody who uses the "That's the way it is because that's the way it is" argument doesn't have an argument. If someone cannot explain their position, then they probably shouldn't be holding it.

I'm sorry if I was too rude, Mr. Fribbles. I have a healthy fear (respect) of God's laws and His names, and it makes me very uncomfortable to play around the edges of anything akin to blasphemy. Some things are fun to argue and debate, but to me this is one of those areas that should be a no-brainer for Christians. Forgive me if my response was unChristlike.
