I know moving can be hard (maybe it's easier for us because we know it's coming sooner or later). Thank you, Amy. I sure appreciate your prayers. quote:

I have been able to read a little in this thread, but think I may have missed what's going on with Jennifer's job hunt. If you would be so kind as to direct me where I can find that info or please fill me in. Please. Nothing much has happened. I had an interview this week with an agency but haven't heard any good news yet. Cynthia, you mean move AWAY? Okay. I'll keep praying. AWAY from our current location to Vancouver. I cannot see moving to Portland, which is where the job is located.

I can't really explain online. It isn't unexpected, though.

no one else in this house actually cooks (although Ash is beginning to expand her horizons a bit in that department You are welcome Yes, I should give credit where credit is due, shouldn't I? Not only that, but Ash wore a skirt to church on Wednesday. Who is this girl you sent back to me, Jen, and what did you do with my daughter? The neighbor's dog was over terrorizing my sheep this morning. I am not happy. They ran right through the fence, and although he didn't actually get hold of them they were pretty skittish by the time I got to them. They are both due to lamb next month, and they certainly don't need to be run around the pasture by a loose dog. Unfortunately this has been a chronic problem with this neighbor - he gets a dog, dog starts running loose, we complain, dog disappears, he gets another dog . . .

I never saw her in a skirt, but she did wear an apron here. Cindy, don't you have the right to shoot the dog if it's harrassing your livestock? I am in the midst of Baha'i research. I am nearly to the point where I collect scripture passages to refute things, but my neck and shoulder are hurting and I think I am ready for a break.

Oregon isn't totally an awful place to homeschool. You only have to send in your intent to homeschool once and then only test at the end of 3rd, 5th, 8th and I think 10th grades. Also, no sales tax to figure out when you go to the stores to shop

ORIGINAL: Jenny-Fair Cindy, don't you have the right to shoot the dog if it's harrassing your livestock? Yes, but that would be a last resort for me. I love dogs, and it's not the dog's fault his owner didn't train him properly. He is an absolutely gorgeous German shepherd. Our general course of action is a) call the neighbor, b) shoot him with a paintball gun, c) call animal control, d) shoot him with the .22. I would much rather see animal control pick him up and try to find him a nice home than shoot him, but I'll do what I have to do. I actually don't mind if the dog comes over as long as he's friendly - they are not home much and I know the dog gets lonely. I draw the line when the dog is aggressive to people or other animals, or if he's destructive.

But you have to turn in the results, don't you? And don't you have to meet a certain standard? In WA we have to test every year but we never have to share the results.

We only have to share the results upon request of the ESD. If they don't request, then we just wait until they do. I happen to live in a county that is very on top of requesting those results. And from what I understand, they have to score above 15%.

Gosh, you really have me afraid to hs in PA. Looks like that's where we'll be moving back to and I'm thrilled because I get so home sick, but please tell me... How do you get around and deal with all the negative aspects of hs'ing in PA? quote:

How do you get around and deal with all the negative aspects of hs'ing in PA? I'm gonna direct you back to the thread on that, Julie, because I'm too lazy to type it all out again. Homeschooling in PA is a pain in the backside, but it certainly can be done. When we looked at buying this house, the only negative at the time was the homeschool law in PA. I decided that if thousands of people could homeschool in PA successfully, then I could too. Would I rather be in Ohio? Absolutely. But this is where God put me for the moment, so here I am.

So, the two local high schools share a football field. It's up the street from my house. Last night the two schools played against one another, and the school from across town vandalized the school that is by the field. This is not the first time--last time they used gasoline to 'write' their school initials in the grass on the field! I called Nate to see how they were doing. They are in Seattle, which I most certainly did not expect, and his dad had fallen asleep, pretty hard, I guess, because Nate was taking care of the 3 kids. I told him to put them all to bed at 10. Jody doesn't sleep well on the train, and he went to bed late last night and got up early this morning. He must have been really tired. Fortunately Nate and Heather are pretty capable kids (she is 11 and her mom has her doing a lot of babysitting).

my mom tried to make a red velvet cake once. I don't know how she did it, but the cake turned out to be sort of rubbery. She never tried to make it again.

When my mother was a girl, she and a friend tried to make fudge using a 'no-fail fudge' recipe. It failed. To hide their failure, they attempted to flush it down the toilet. It was not a good idea.
