So many people cannot get to NQC till the weekend. Groups in droves were hustling Saturday to tear down booths early in the afternoon and evening. People who can only come Saturday miss a lot by these groups leaving so early. NQC should have some sort of sanction on how long group must stay set up on weekend

Probably one of the main reasons we don't stay for Saturday. Usually at least 50% of the groups have pulled up stakes. Even with the awards program being changed to Saturday it still didn't keep the booths set up. Crowd might have been up but they certainly was not able to see their favorite group around their booths. You also have to look at the groups side. NQC don't pay them to be there and they need finances to help cover the week so they have to head out and sing Saturday and Sunday to cover some expenses. Maybe they should start NQC on Sunday early afternoon with several groups having 45-60 minute concerts in Freedom Hall and end on Friday evening.

At 6:00 or a little before, everyone can head over to the awards ceremony. Afterwards, the artists can finish taking down their booths and head out based on the performance schedule.

At one time they had a rule that groups could not set up or tear down between the hours of 4:00 - 11:00. If this is still in effect they sure don't enforce it, as I saw many setting up during those hours early in the week. They might consider going though the exhibit hall early on Saturday afternoon and see who had left. The next year give those groups space on the back wall and give groups that stayed through Saturday the PRIME locations in the front of the exhibit hall.

I forgot to mention the artists used to have a dinner between 4:00-6:00 on the awards night. I always wondered why they were not at their booths on awards nights and found out about this dinner they were expected to attend.

Actually, every booth holder has to sign a contract. It states that no one is allowed to load in/load out during the hours the exhibit hall is open to the public. Fans are not supposed to see that. A holder must get special permission to leave early. The booth is rented for the whole week according to the contracts I have signed. When I first started renting booth space, it was pretty much enforced and adheard to. Most everyone had their booth the whole week and people started tearing down Saturday around 11:00 PM. Recently, people have started leaving when they get tired, ready to go home, sung in all of their show cases, finished visiting with everyone they wanted to see, not making any money and ignore the contract they signed. Then you have those who are only plan on being there for 3/4 days or the booth sit empty for a few days. You will see one group/renter in the booth for part of a week and then another in the other. I don't know if in those cases the groups only pay for part of the week or all of it. If so seems like they both may pay the flat fee. I have never seen anything but the standard one price per booth space listed or mentioned anywhere. In none of the paperwork have I seen a daily or part week fee for a booth. I wonder sometimes if they don't split the fee and booth time between two groups in a deal between the two of them to cut down on the costs. I know the contracts I signed did not allow that. I It is sad that the fans who can't get there until the weekend come looking to get to see their favorite artists and for the most part find the exhibit hall so empty. When I was able to have a booth, I had thought I would have like the idea that those who stayed and fulfilled their contract would get to have a booth closer to the doors to Freedom Hall and those who were going to leave could be further back so that on the weekend, fans wouldn't have to go searching the aisles for a booth with someone still there. Those who fulfilled their contract would be noted and they would have first choice of the booths closer to the Freedom Hall doors again. If they leave early (except extreme emergency, illness, death, fire, etc.), they forfeit that right. Just an idea. Robert and others, I am typing really slow today. You beat me to it. I so, so agree with your post.

maybe we can e-mail NQC about our thoughts on improvements. staff@natqc.com I agree, send an e-mail with your thoughts... Also for thought... There are many groups that would love the opportunity to perform on the "main stage" during NQC but never get the chance. As stated earlier in this post most groups are ready to get to "paying dates" on Sunday and leave before convention is over on Saturday. From experience let me be the first to tell you how much exposure a group gets from NQC, product sales and numerous booking contacts; especially groups that perform on the "Main Stage"! I understand completely about the need to have income but you have to realize what the artist benefits from the NQC exposure overall. When you rent a booth it is for the whole entire NQC and should be required to be there for the duration. If not then violation of contract should occur with penalty for leaving early. Suggestion: Enforce a deposit from each booth holder that is refunded at the conclusion of the event. If the booth holder then leaves prior to end of convention they would forfeit their deposit...? It is also very unfare to the fan that comes for the weekend and "shortchanged" and disappointed. They have purchased a ticket for this night just like any other night and should not be penalized!

After stopping at almost all of the 500 booths at NQC and asking, we discovered that most of these groups were to be in concert this morning and this evening. Imagine this: after the whole week at NQC some acctually had to drive 10-15 hours Saturday night to reach their destination. Don't get me wrong, I really wish they had all stayed until it was all done...but I understand the need to pull up stakes. It was after 1 when we left Sautrday night and there were still bunches of people there just standing around visiting.

To post #9 don't bother sending e-mail with suggestions to NQC they have the answers. Post # 2 the groups do get paid to be there. Theynare not just there on there own. It is not their usual flat fee but they do receive compinsation

They even get 3 nights on main stage.

I do believe you are right Bobby. I have a friend that has appeared at the NQC for several years now. They perform in the showcases and it cost him a small fortune for the week. They have to rent space in the exhibit hall pay his group travel expenses etc. and they do not get paid for anything except the product they sell.

Way to many good groups that are not INVITED to sing main stage that could take the place of Board Members groups singing 3 nights

Post #9 I did not mean all the groups (showcases etc) get paid , just the ones who perform on the main stage in the evening are paid.

I dont understand how that the Pfiefers can get 3 nights when they dont even have a song out there doing well in the charts...please forgive me but I would much rather hear some other groups more than the Pfiefers for 3 nights Im sorry if that offended anybody...please dont hold that against me quote:

There were some of the newer or less well-known artists that I was very glad to see on the main stage this year - like Soul'd Out, Paid In Full, Crist Family, and Tribute. I was very pleased to see Roy Webb (no matter what he says about me!) and Jeff Stice get time to play in their own slots during the regular concerts, too, instead of just before the concert. And I really enjoyed the different configurations of Best Band in the Land.
