People, have we lost it???

we wouldn't recognize our God if He walked down the street. Personally, I am scared for us because we are taking Him for granted, and some of these songs and the way that we interpret them show that.

Simply put, we need to be the difference in life via actions and not just lyrics. Let us not get caught up in words!!!

Umm... This book was written as a sexually charged conversation between a husband and wife. I don't think it was God's love letter to his church.

I have a commentary set (Benson's) from the 1860s and the opening statement of the Song of Solomon was that the entire book HAD to be taken as allegory of Christ and the Church; as the idea that it could be applied to a real man and woman was just too unthinkable.

Far from being inapporpriate, I believe the current "romantic" genre adds an important missing element in historic worship music. Like anything else, the pendulum may have swung too far in that direction in some cases, but given time that will re-center itself.

There should be an almost romantic longing for the return of our Lord.

Jesus said the greatest commandment was to Love the Lord our God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength. Sounds to me like that should contain some pretty strong emotional feelings. Where is that in the older didactic hymns?
