I started working in a trade centre last year after working in an office and initially I could not believe how insulting the customers could be and after about six months I learned that it was nothing personal for they themselves are walking around wanting unload on others for the worries of their day. I also saw from others responses that they fell into the trap of retelliating as they were treated and it just does not work. In fact it really pours oil on a fire from which there is no escape.

Now much to my surprise, I have found I can respond in such a way as to releave much of the tension of such interactions. For if someone calls me a fool or stupid, I simply say, they only say that because they think they will get what they want through flattery.

Pride is a trebble thing and if we do not humble ourselves then God will. I love M&Ms response in his movie 8 Mile for after he had humbled himself, his opponent had nothing to say.

I like that, Terryjohn. Prairie had herself a time. This is good about confrontations... to take away your half of the 'wood' of the argument and just watch them fizzle out on their own uppitiness, as it were. I'd more likely say it takes one to know one in a jesting voice then flattery will get you no where today, ma'am, but a gentle back step away from the heat of 'battle' could bring in just enough cool air to discern what to do next.

Wow, this thread has some mileage...it's still going and going.

After thinking about it, I really don't regret how I confronted the guy. It was time that I did that! If it was some stranger who called me stupid, or someone from the office who insulted me, I'd definitely deal with it differently. But this is a different issue, and a very personal one that really shook me to the core...so, giving him some tongue lashing was well deserved from my point of view. Of course, God might have a different opinion...but then, maybe not. Maybe this is God's way of confronting the guy with his issues as welll. Time will tell. He was definitely upset about it, and so should he be. I'd do it again if faced with the same situation. But I probably never will put myself in that situation again. I learned big time from that one!
