ORIGINAL: Consecrated2God I really think that however they want to have this wedding is their own business. We're not even invited, so why do we care how they do things? I don't usually follow celebrity weddings, personally. Well, I think "most" women like to dish about weddings. My friends and I are at the age where we are ( again) being invited to lots of weddings. This time around it is the children of our friends and friends of our children getting married. "How was the wedding?" is a common topic of conversation. While we are for the most part gracious, there are always the stories of the horrid bridesmaid dresses, interesting color choices, tacky toasts and awful tasting wedding cakes. I think that is pretty much universal and certainly not an attack on the lifestyle choices of the Duggars And honestly, mostly in good fun and quickly followed up with.."Oh my goodness, when I think back on my wedding..'What WAS I thinking and what must people have said!'.... I feel like this is just one of those girlfriend-gab things that women have been doing since the dawn of creation! Now, having said that, I will say that I am much more likely to feel free to comment on these things which are truly none of my business when the family involved invites the public to have a look-see. To me, it is no different than watching HGTV and saying to my neighbor...Did you see Designer's Challenge last night? Can you believe she picked those curtains? However, I certainly would not say.." Have you been in Renee's house since she painted the kitchen? That color reminds me of that nasty flu our family had last month!"

One of the funny things about weddings is that sometimes when you hear the colors before hand, you think "yuck," but it turns out to be really beautiful. My older sister had a black and white wedding....and many before hand had doubts..and then after and at the wedding, everyone said it was beautiful and elegant, and it was..and right after that there was a whole slew of black weddings..trendsetter she was When my bff got married she told me her colors would be teal and rust with other fall colors as accents...I thought yuck at first, but honest, it was SOOO beautiful...The bridesmaids had teal, and there were 4 flower girls-one in gold, one in brown, one in rust, and one in red...it looked very good...also one thing she did that I will always be grateful for is that for the bridesmaids dresses she picked the fabric, but let us pick the pattern..the other bridesmaids were all thinner than me, so I was extremely grateful for that.

That's weird, because most weddings I've been to, Ive thought very pretty, liked the dresses, liked the colors, liked the cake...maybe I run into people with better taste? Anyway, while I might put in my 2 cents before hand, I certainly try not to criticize after the fact.

In a group of women talking about weddngs there is bound to be someone mention an awfully tacky wedding, dresses, colours, attendants...something. I remember a girlfriend telling me about a wedding she went to where the MOH kept yawning and smacking her gum. The groom kept glaring at her but she wouldn't stop. *shrug* There. I mentioned something awful at a wedding.

The poster you quoted, was talking about going to friends' kids weddings. Once you've btdt, you see things in a much different light.

I have been to weddings that were tacky, one where the groom had a pizza delivered right in the middle of the exchanging of the rings, so the bride would "loosen" up and not be so nervous. Yeah like that would help. I have seen ugly dresses and color schemes that made you wonder what they were thinking. It happens. Now I have also been to beautiful weddings as well.

Well I'm not sure how young you meant, but I'm 36 now, and was 35 in the picture, so thank you for the compliment! I've actually been to many a wedding myself with my dad being a pastor and all (retired Navy chaplain)...which reminds me, one thing I always loved about military weddings was the sword arch..

I have been to weddings so beautiful they made me want to marry my husband all over again. One of the most beautiful was right after an ice storm and the venue was running on a generator. There was only enough power for the kithchen and the heat. The entire wedding and reception was by candlelight. It was gorgeous. It was jokingly referred to as the beautiful Smith wedding/natural disaster for some time. However, I have had several dear sweet friends that made me wear the most gaudy, horrific bridesmaid dresses. I mean butt bows, weird cape things with fake floral flowers and that was one dress! And parasols, doesn't anyone remember the parasols that were dyed to match the dyed shoes? I don't really think it was them though. It was the late 80's/early 90's. I think we were all fashion impaired. I love the simple, elegant dresses I have seen lately at the weddings I have attended. Karen

Be sure and scroll through all 10...one of them is the bride herself saying her bridesmaids dresses were ugly, lol. She says she doesn't know what she was thinking.

Oh that is pretty! I think I have something very similar in my parents' downstairs closet. I look back now and laugh. Why on earth did we need to wear a floppy lace hat with a parasol? Was there a fear of a freak sun storm in the church???? I let my MOH pick out her own dress. See, then it was not my responsibility. If she later thought she looked silly she only had herself to blame! Karen

Karen If you look upthread, you'll see my best friend did the same thing for her sisters and me..well she still picked the fabric (which we all liked-a very pretty shade of silk teal)..but we each got to pick our own patterns..I will be forever grateful for that. Here's what I wrote: When my bff got married she told me her colors would be teal and rust with other fall colors as accents...I thought yuck at first, but honest, it was SOOO beautiful...The bridesmaids had teal, and there were 4 flower girls-one in gold, one in brown, one in rust, and one in red...it looked very good...also one thing she did that I will always be grateful for is that for the bridesmaids dresses she picked the fabric, but let us pick the pattern..the other bridesmaids were all thinner than me, so I was extremely grateful for that.

ORIGINAL: Mrs.Wifey Nope, we are girl/boy/boy/girl/girl/boy. So, just out of curiosity, which one was in the wedding (Since you said just 2 siblings were involved, I assumed one from your side and one from Micah's, but I could be wrong).

One of the things that I really like about Josh Duggar is how honestly he spoke on one of the shows about purity until marriage. My 15 yo dd was watching the show with me. It has been an uphill battle to keep her pure. The show was one of the first ones that they did, so it was a few years old. My dd listened very intently to what he said. I wish I had taped the show, because I don't remember exactly what he said. However, I do remember my dd telling me a few days later that she wants to find a guy with the morals of Josh. She said that she doesn't know how many children she wants to have, but it probably won't be 15-20, but she does want to meet and someday marry a man who really respects women the way that Josh does.

I think the Duggars are at heart good people, and I think that for the most part, their sons will try hard to be good husbands, according to what they've been taught. But I wouldn't want to marry a Duggar boy, even if I were young and single again. My husband respects me greatly. Maybe we weren't perfect in the purity department (IMO not the end all be all of what it means to be a good Christian), but he supports all my hopes and dreams, in and out of the home. He treats me with great respect, as his equal, and would not move forward in a major decision without my consent. That's what I want for my daughter; that's how I want my son to treat his wife. But for many women, I do think the Duggar boys will make good husbands - just not for my daughter.

That was a neat video. That's the first time I've actually seen them on video. Thanks for posting that! I don't think they look weird at all and I think Michelle's hair is pretty.
