I've been a reader since I was in elementary school. I don't know why or how because that was too long ago! The book fair was always the most exciting day(s) of the year. Also library day and the montly book orders we got.

Book fairs and library days were the highlights of my weeks too.I used to
actually burst into tears if I was sick on Rif day or missed library.

The earliest I remember reading was before I started school. Mom would point to billboards and cereal boxes and we would decipher the words. It was quite a challenge since neither of us spoke English!! Spanish is very easy to read. Since the letters typically represent one phoneme, if one knows the alphabet, they can pretty much read Spanish.

Book reading also started fairly early. I remember reading books like Curious George and the Mouse and the Motorcycle way back in the day. The earliest “real” books I read were probably The Phantom Tollbooth, Hound of the Baskervilles, Jonathon Livingston Seagull, and several others somewhere around 2nd and 3rd grade. I had this great 2nd grade teacher who noticed my reading aptitude and kept giving me books to read. I used to get in trouble for not coming to dinner, because I couldn’t put the books down. When I was in the 6th grade, I became interested in astronomy and was reading college level books. When in the 7th or 8th grade, I read Crime and Punishment and The Count of Monte Cristo, after which, I became interested in the classics.

I can't remember being alive and not reading. My parents said at the age of 3 I was reading and comprehending the newspaper articles. I've always read above my age level and love to read and learn or merely be entertained.

My parents tell me that I was so frustrated as a pre-schooler because I couldn't read and wanted to so badly. My dad read books to me all the time. My mom taught me to read when I was 5 and I've never stopped. I read adult books at the age of 7-8, such as The Hiding Place, the Love Comes Softly series, etc. I also read the entire Chronicles of Narnia series when I was about that age. My brothers were the same way. My younger brother started to read when he was 4 and read The Hobbit when he was probably 7.

I used to hate reading in elementary. Then in second grade I got hooked on the Boxcar Children. I love reading now.

Well, I was sick a lot when I was growing up (I was a "Tratetology of Fallot" baby, which means that I was born a "blue baby.").
I got most of my entertainment from reading because I was unable to do much of anything else. I am so thankful that I did learn to read at an early age.

I've enjoyed books and stories pretty much all my life, but I was a slow reader for much of my childhood. The thing that really turned me onto reading was picking up The Green Mile back when I had a medical condition that left me unable to do much of anything but read for half an hour each day. That got me hooked.
Sadly, being in college has left me little time for any reading but textbooks. Much sadness. : (

I read books before but never got into series reading until 7th grade.
My math teacher was awesome. He allowed me to leave class once I finished all the work he has given me. So, I went to the library almost every day and I picked up a book and haven't stopped since.

One of my earliest memories is of my father excitedly calling my mother into the room to hear me spell one of the first words I remember spelling - zoology. I had a preternatural penchant for reading since age four, and my initial addiction was to reading encyclopedias, which I still do to this day, much to my wife's chagrin. As you can imagine, she gets a bit impatient when I drag home another set I found at a garage sale or used book store.

Sadly, my precociousness didn't extend to mathematics.

I've always loved reading. I love getting new books, but I don't just buy them at random, I can't stand the disappointment of a bad book. It's probably something to do with being an introvert and having another world inside a book.
