Has anyone thought about the idea that the pastor was trying to protect himself from what may be a weakness to him? Remember that pastors are people with weaknesses just like everyone else.

So he's ready to cast the girl off, but not his own iniquity?

Given that thought, then I would say that if he feels that his weakness is more powerful than God's work in him, perhaps he should not be at the pulpit ~~~~~~~~Matthew 5:29 "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."
He cast her off? Casting off is asking her to leave the church. He didn't do that. Try to understand the pastor's point of view before condemning him.

I understand where you are coming from and I agree, to a degree. It is just so fragile a situation when a person comes to a church for the first time & I think the preacher should have considered all of the circumstances & the possibility of unseen circumstances.

I am just "opinionating" that if a preacher has a weakness where you suggested possible and his faith does not exceed his weakness, then maybe he should cast himself, not "off" but certainly back a few notches.

Personally, the worship team members and instrument playing members who wear skirts like that would bother me a whole lot more because I would think they should dress modestly. Seen it all............

I do know of a situation where a member of the praise team was asked to wear something more appropriate if she wanted to get on stage. She quit right away. Odd thing is, she wanted me to take her side. I told her that maybe she needed to stop worrying about the rights she thinks she has and start worrying about what the right thing to do is.

I have not had a problem with "inappropriate" dress, probably because for a few years we have been in a rural community.

In the Past where I founded a Church in a sea side town; sometimes there was a problem as in shirtless guys with only speedo's on, ladies with way too much hanging out (string bikinies etc.), but they were headed off at the entrance and offered some coverup clothes that were kept in a room nearby.

Not one of them ever objected, and many of them got saved and became members.

I do think that if the person gets to the front row, and then to attract more attention by asking them to move is bad planning and probably was not handled correctly.

Thanks
RC

And not one who is His will be lost. If this young woman is His, it doesn't matter how badly she may have been treated. God wins every time.
This is true, but humans beings do not have to trample over each other during the process. What happened to the woman was degrading, and I'm sure she was humiliated.

This is true; but again, he could have handled the situation much differently and far better than how he did.

Another example of the church not acting like the church. . . sad day for Christendom. I hope she isn't so turned off by the church that she never goes back.

for it will be better for him that day to tie a rock around his neck and throw himself in the sea..............

Earthless is this a new study for you? You have been floating that verse for a few post lately that I have read. The way I look at it we all have a moment when we can make the noose and take the proverbial walk.

To the o/p: She may have been an distraction for those who were in the front, such as deacons, pastor, etc....
Certainly they are all fallen men and do not have a fire guard. It was not neccessary to move her to the back, but a few seats where her apparel was less noticable would have been fine.
Hey I have seen women dressed totally appropriate and men still faulted.

anyhow I always see these circumstance assuch:
There was a man who attended an upscale church. He was dishevelled, wearing blue jeans and work boots.
The church cried out, "Pastor!" they cried and he smiled at his congegation, "Don't worry I will handle this!"
The pastor greeted the man and said, "Welcome to our church! Do you think if you stop by again you can change your apparel?!"
The man shook his hand and left.
The next sunday the man again appeared, wearing the same clothing and his hair was dishevelled, the congregation again cried out, "Pastor, pastor!"
The pastor again assured his congregation that thing was all well. The pastor again greeted the man and said, "Listen we are both believers but do you think next sunday when you attend you can pray and ask God what you should wear?" The man smiled and shook the pastor's hand in agreement.
Well the Sunday came and the man did not change in appearance, again the congregation shouted out in dismay. The pastor again assured his congregation and after the service he walked up to the man and ask," Did you pray what we talked about?" The man answered, "Yes I did!" The pastor smiled ear to ear, "What did the Lord say?" The man looked at him and responded, "HE said He doesn't know, He's never been here!"

At my old church if a lady came in dressed in an advertising way, a lady usher would go to her and give her a cloth to cover herself with.

Or maybe just turn the ac down.

The second row would have sufficed.

Pushing her all the way to the back is degrading.

She shoulda pulled a Rosa Parks . . .

I became a Christian in 1976 at the age of 17. Back then, short skirts were in fashion also. Having been "of the world," that's all I wore. I am so glad that the pastoral staff of the church I went to after my conversion had the wisdom to let the Holy Spirit convict me of my manner of dress. It didn't take very long, either, before I let my hemlines down to an acceptable length.

The more often I attended that church, the more I felt loved and accepted by the people, and I developed trust in them and the pastoral staff. Because of that trust, I also trusted the teaching and the encouragement to read the Word. After reading various scriptures about lust, that I feel I was directed to by the Holy Spirit, I began to realize that how I was dressed could cause someone to stumble. I also trusted the other women in the church, saw how they were dressed, and followed their example.

When the Holy Spirit is allowed to do His job, He does it well.

Peace,
Lynn

and this is a point SUPERBLY made. By the Holy Spirit we are directed and by the Holy Spirit we should abide. If a person thinks the Holy Spirit has given him or her direction to condemn or cast aside another human being, I think that person needs to check what spirit they are listening to!
