I know, Manda. Fortunately, none of the thumb-suckers in my family had too hard a time stopping. However, I am well aware that if he does start I may well be in for a rough road when the time comes to stop. (sigh) It's a tough call, but we've just decided to let him do whatever comes naturally. We won't force one way or the other.

(((Jae))) Lack of sleep will do that to you. I agree with Manda - just getting out of the house for a bit can help a lot. Anyway, I hope you get some decent sleep tonight - that always makes a huge difference!

OK, it's 10:40 now. At 10:25 I went back in there (he was still screaming that whole time), stroked his face, kept telling him "ni-night, go sleepy" in my usual nightnight voice, layed him back down and left the room again. He screamed his head off for another 3 minutes and then he was quiet. I thought maybe he went to sleep. I told Robert I wanted to go in there just to make sure everything was OK, and he was like "Are you sure you wanna do that?" So, I went in there and Jimmy had been sitting up quietly in the crib and then started screaming as soon as I walked in. (OK, so Robert was right.) Rinse and repeat. Two minutes after me walking out, he's quiet again.....so I'm gonna wait a while a while to go back in. Our bedroom door makes kind of a cracking noise when I open it because the door is too big for the frame I guess. It's looking hopefull so far. Lets just hope I can commit to this after I've gone to sleep. I really hope I don't give in and give him the boob and let him sleep in our bed. Robert is sleeping on Timmy's floor tonight (maybe tomorrow night too) to help comfort Timmy if he gets upset that Jimmy's crying, and so Robert can maybe get some sleep too if Jimmy's crying is not too loud. It's 10:48, not a peep.

It went good. I went to bed a little after I posted. He didn't wake up until 3am, and he was awake off and on till 4:30. But his crib is like only 6 inches from our bed now, so I was able to put my hand in there while laying down to comfort him. Then he slept from 4:30 to 6:30, went right back to sleep after me just rubbing him for a minute until 8am. I'm really happy with how it went. Hopefully those strtches of sleeping will just get longer. I'm going to nurse him to sleep at nap for a lttle while, maybe until he stop crying in his crib, and then I'll try the same thing at nap time. But, I didn't nurse him at all last night. In fact, I haven't nursed him since 3pm yesterday for his second nap. I really thought it was going to be a lot harder (I thought the same with Timmy). I thought maybe Jimmy would scream all night once I went to bed because he'd know my boobs were right there. Oh, I forgot to say when he woke up at 8am, he was smiling and happy to see me.

Stina you did so well (and Robert was right LOL) I always wait about 10 mins or so before I went to check on mine those first few times. Is there any way you can move his crib into another room or you aren't comfortable with that yet? I am glad you both slept well

Thanks! Yeah, I nursed him to sleep for his naps today. And, then I just put him down 5 minutes ago and he only let out one cry in one breath when I left the room and that was it. He's quiet in there right now. Nic, I don't plan to move him until he sleep very well, and then he can go into Timmy's room. When I gave up last time getting Jimmy to sleep in his own bed, Robert took Jimmy's old room, and it's now his office. We both like it that way because the new computer game we play is rated M. But, yeah, I'm not opposed to Jimmy sleeping in another room, Timmy was in his own room at 4 months old, but we just don't have another room to put him in. And, I don't want Timmy's sleep to be disturbed much.

That's what we'll probably be facing in a month. My son is 19 months, and he'll be moving to his "big boy room", while the nursery remains a nursery for my daughter who'll be born in January. She'll be sleeping in mom and dad's room for about 2 months, but we want time to get him used to the new big boy bed and everything. He already uses his new room as a play room, so hopefully it has good associations already.

Just wondered if it might be an idea to bring forward his sleeping in there - just in case the young lady decides to come early! (mine did!)

Any time after Thanksgiving (less then 2 weeks) will be fine for the move. So, actually it'll be less then a month. But my brother and pregnant sister in law are visiting us for Thanksgiving, and we want to have a proper room for them. SIL will have Nathan's twin bed - more then enough room for one adult, and bro will have a nice air mattress I purchased to place next to the twin bed. For future visits they will probably stay with my mom and dad, who have two spare bedrooms. But mom and dad will be away for Thanksgiving, and we're happy to have them with us.

Yes Kath is right, some kids regress when things are changed on them. Nath took 2 days to get back to normal after I did the controlled crying in the city for that 2 weeks with him. But it was only 2 days. sounds like you have it all worked out though Stina, so cool :) ruth makes sense that you can't move him in there yet. Have you got him a quilt cover etc that he will like etc? Grace helped pick hers out, helped make the bed etc and she couldn't wait til night when she could sleep in it! She was a little older though, she was about 2 I think.

What ages are you doing this with your children? I remember doing this with Nadia at 9 months to cut out the middle of the night feeding. I am in no way thinking of doing this with Rhys yet. Just wondering...

Kathryn, my kids' ped says she feels controlled crying is OK for babies over 9 months old or walking, whichever comes first. Kath, thanks for letting me know that. I hadn't thought of regression. I plan to put our blue nightlight in Timmy's room when he moves. And, then of course all his crib toys will still be on the crib, so that may help. Ruth, Nathan might be super excited to sleep in a big boy bed. Timmy was 17 months when we got him his racecar bed, and he was extatic. He kept saying "It's a car, it's a bed, it's a car, it's a bed" over and over with big eyes. So, I was gone from 11am to 9pm today helping my mom at her house. Robert put Jimmy down for nap and bed today. He said he went down so easily, no crying at all, and he took a 2.5 HOUR NAP! Jimmy never takes that long of a nap! I gotta say, it was really freeing to be gone that long knowing Jimmy is going to sleep OK and Robert's not stressed out trying to rock him or give him a bottle or something. Haven't nursed since naptime yesterday...little sad. Not sure if I'll still nurse him to sleep at naptime or not.

Stina I am so glad for you that things are going so well and that Robert could have a stress free time with the boys and sleep time. I agree with what Ruth just said up there, if you can try and get Robert to put him to bed for all his naps and the bed time if he is there he will probably not even need the nursing to go to sleep. That's how I did it with Nath.
