I wonder if their friend Beth went the same way as Jodi has? Though I thought Jon was working for Beth's husband?

I used to really like the show but having watched from the beginning I have to say that things have changed dramatically. In one episode Kate said the first 3 years with the sextuplets was one huge adjustment and when they got past 3 years they felt like a family again. It was interesting to hear.

I think as the show has gone on they have become more and more reliant on both the camera crew and the monetary benefits they get. Kate was asked in an email how much of their vacations are free. She said that the places invite them for free as long as they agree to promote the resort. She used the ski trip as an example. I'm sure Disney and the more recent summer trip were the same way.

The attitude of Kate and Jon has improved over the years but I wonder how much of that is just them playing better for the cameras?

I found the article I was looking for..HERE is what Paul Petersen says about the show.

Is Kate older than Jon? I wondered, because she kind of acts like she is.

Sometimes they seem overly snippy, and sometimes they don't seem any different than the parents of the large families I used to babysit/nanny for, lol.

I had thought that this show should end after this year, as the kids will all be in school. What are we going to watch? Are we going to see them get on the bus and go to school? There was some interest when the kids were all under 4. How do you make it. But I don't think you really have a show once they are in school.

Good point...and I don't think the school will really want the cameras around.

I think Kate will probably calm down a lot when they start school.

I also like their dry sense of humor. Some of what people may construe as bickering may actually be just how they get along...and LIKE it! My husband and I are similar. Yes, it can get out of line sometimes, but most of the time, we are both good spiritedly poking at each other. Not everyone has that sense of humor, I know, but we do. We laugh a lot in our house.

My husband and I are very similar. Some of the things we say to each other (or how we say it) behind closed doors, all in fun, would shock people. But we do it behind closed doors. If there were cameras in our home we wouldn't be behaving that way around them because we know that it is something that could easily be misconstrued.

We've seen it happen even amongst close friends...we were at church one day and we were "bickering" (and we were doing it privately but people were listening.) Next thing we know, a few friends are talking to us about the "problems" we were having. I can't imagine if close friends took it that way, how an entire nation would take it, and I don't think I'd want people thinking that is how I am. Especially when people could say "I thought they were Christians."

Lexie,
Kate has said more than once that she would only agree to the show if they were allowed to be themselves. So, what you see is what you get. That doesn't mean that editing does not play a roll, etc.

As far as Jodi and Beth: I have several friends who I did not talk to for a while after my daughter died. God has repaired some of the relationships, others I learned were "friends for a season". Not all friends are lifetime friends. I know Jodi is family but that doesn't mean she has to be involved in the day to day of their lives (ETA) especially if she cannot accept the rules mom or dad has given ie no gum.

my question would be if Jodi knew Kate had a rule, granted, asking the kids isn't the best way to find out...

Jodi was not sure of the rules because she had seen Kate give the kids gum before. Kate's rules change on a daily basis.

Not sure why this hasn't been move to the TV thread yet........

My distrust of Jon and Kate started when she told a judge that society needed to help them care for her kids because society allowed them to have fertility treatments. There is an article on this site about a sense of entitlement - which abounds in America today.

I've been seeing advertisements that make it sound like the little ones will be going to school this coming season.

CNN did a story on the controversy today. I wasn't sure if we were allowed to post you-tube links, but it is up on you-tube if you didn't catch it on CNN.

We love Jon & Kate + 8!

It's my little girl's favorite show because the sextuplets are just a few months older than she is and she's just crazy about all of those totally cute kids her age.

I admit that sometimes my hubby and I give each other surprised looks when Kate says something snarky to Jon, but we remember that it's a TV show...meaning it's edited, edited, edited.

I've seen every episode...most of them a few times, but I wouldn't assume that what we see is how it is all the time (again, it's TV).

Hopefully they will do more of the "life at home" shows. We tend to like them more than the ones about trips they take.
