I was surprised to see an article at sogospelnews.com that Guy is taking a break for the next 3 weeks for some "much-deserved rest and personal time."
And filling in for him at various times and concerts will be Mark Lowry, David Phelps and Jason Crabb. WOW!! The article says "these three gifted artists will contribute an extraordinary element to the Homecoming program during Guy's temporary absence." Ya think?!?!?!?

I'm sure he needs some "personal time & rest". We all do from time to time. I pray he will have a great 3 weeks off. He is always traveling & has to get tired from the many miles he has traveled for the Lord.

WOW!!! what a shock? I understand he needs the rest, but I never thought he would come off the road for that period of time...he just seems like the type of person who would just take a few days off and bounce back!!! Well I am sure that his fill-ins will do fantastic!!

Jason Crabb with the gang probably creates about the most speculation because both of the others have sung relatively recently with Gaither (or at least on Gaither tours).
This will be VERY interesting! Interestingly, Mark used to sing baritone, and David sang tenor....

You know when I first saw this thread title I about cried. I thought it meant like a semi-permanent break. I love me some Guy Penrod. He's not too bad looking either.

I plan on going to the homecoming in Sacramento, CA. It is a little more than three weeks away though, so Guy might be back by then.

Although jason is one of my favorites...I don't think the sound of his voice will mesh too well with Marshall and Wes' (who are extremely smooth singers). I thought the same thing about Russ when he joined as baritone. However, we will let the concert goers be the judge. Either way, it will be great! I CAN'T WAIT until tonight's concert in Columbus!!!

Well, Mark was with them tonight in Columbus, Ga... and they sounded as good as ever. Interestingly enough, instead of Mark filling in for Guy, they moved Marshall to lead (for the most part) in order to give Mark his old part. However, on several songs (the newer ones mostly), Mark didn't join the group. Bill, Marshall and Wes sang with Gordon Mote filling in the missing harmony from the piano mic. It went well, although I did get the same feeling that youngartist mentioned earlier...a little "sleepy" compared to years past. It's too bad they just don't bring back Michael English for 3 months...how awesome would that be!!!
