I haven't been here in a while but I have been exercising. I usually do an hour pool workout at least 4 days a week. Today I went for a 5 mile bike ride. It was my first ride this year. The first ride is always a tough one (especially where the bike seat meets my seat) but I felt pretty good. And now I am heading down to the pool as that will help ease any sore muscles from the ride. You all are doing so well! I am impressed!

I went to the gym yesterday for like 2 1/2 hours! Yikes! I made up my weights that I did not do in the middle of the week. I am so sore today.

I ran on Monday and friday and my step class on Tuesday.

Today I was going to go to the gym, but I decided I am going to enjoy the bit of sunshine we have and do something outside. :) So for sure cut my plants back, but I think I might pull my roller blades out. I love skating and don't do it enough anymore.

I made it to the gym yesterday for my yoga/pilates class, which I normally find pretty easy. Today I feel as though a boot camp trainer had run me through my paces. I guess that's what pregnancy does to you--you don't have to work out nearly as hard to feel exhausted.

Will probably take a break from the gym today and go for a walk.

Did my 400 crunches last night holding 8lbs of weight and ran 4 miles this morning in the freezing cold.

My workout adjustment isn't working.

I went to the gym last night to do weights and the elliptical, but it was way too crowded. I only hit three weight machines before giving up and going home. The lines were crazy and I really don't understand why people just sit on the machines. I get that you need to rest between sets, but five or ten minutes of rest is far too much. Oh, and is it too much to ask that you don't sit on the machine and text?

It's the Olympic effect + the weather. Happened at my gym during the summer Olympics too.

Actually you can ask, but half the time people roll their eyes and don't do anything. The management walks a real thin line on how hard they want to enforce the rules.

The Olympic Effect! Thats it. I was wondering what was going in. My gym was packed this week, and I was wondering why, as the resolutionist crowd had started clearing out a couple of weeks ago....Then all of sudden BOOM-it was like early January all over again. I had forgetten about the "olympic effect".

On the rare occasion I ask if I can "work in" on a machine....I haven't been met by any eye rolls. Though this week there was a young man hogging the 25lb dumbells. Rather than re racking them so others could use them between sets while he rested...he was holding on to them at his bench....Most of the regular lifters re rack between sets, and then I ask anyway if they mind if I grab them for a set. I ALMOST asked him if I could use them while he rested-but he was a newbie-so I finished my overhead shoulder presses with the barbell instead. I figure I will gently educate him on gym etiquette if I see him again and the same thing happens.

The Olympic Effect!! That's a good term for it. I kinda figured that's what was going on. It can't be the weather. It's been in the 70s/80s here this week.

No gym tonight. I'm delivering an order for my Sweden fundraiser. I have to remember not to stay and chat because then I won't get up in the morning for a swim. I cannot find a schedule to save my life.

There's also another mini rush at the gym the week or two before spring break if your gym is the teen/college hangout like mine is. It's pretty funny though because they just do a bunch of crunches and that's it. LOL!

LOL. Most of the young men seem to have 3 favorites-chest, biceps, and abs. I see way more kids in the summer, when the college and high school gyms aren't open or accessible to them. And I see a ton of women using that leg squeezie thing, ab machines, and nothing else by way of resistance training. I mean I see that ALL the time.

What is that? Bad fitness advice? Too many infomercials for thigh masters and ab rockers?

I don't have a schedule as far as what time of day I go. Sometimes its morning, afternoon or evening. So much depends on work and family schedules on a particular day. I do have a "schedule" as far as what I do when I get there.

I did my run last night. I was short on time for my full workout, so I did an extra 5 min on my run, I think I died yesterday. :) LOL! No it was a good push.

Tonight is step class and weights. I need to do the weights, I always skip that part.

I always thought of myself as pretty flexible, but I need a schedule.

I prefer to go in the morning, but if I end up working on something too late the night before, I won't be able to get up in time and go. If I go in the evenings, then I've pretty much guaranteed that I won't wake up early enough the next morning to get to the gym/pool.

Then I have to figure out which place I'm going to. Short course at the swim center is only available on Fridays from 5:30a-8a. It's long course on Tues/Thurs which is not that conducive to synchro and closed to the public on Mon/Wed until later in the season.

If I go to the gym closest to home, I have to get up at 4:30a to get there by 5:15ish so I can be done by 6:30a to go home and get ready for work. If I go to the gym that's closest to work, I can get up at 5:30a to get there by 6:15ish, but then I have to cart everything with me so I can go straight to work. If the pool is broken, like it was a couple weeks ago, I'm pretty much screwed because it's too late to go anywhere else. There's always some odds and ends I need to do at home that I can't do if I don't come back after swimming. I end up doing that at night which again makes me stay up too late.

So yeah. I definitely need a schedule.

I really long for the days of having the gym 3 miles away. I could get there by 5a. Home by 7a. Do whatever else I needed to do. Off to work by 8a.

Well writerchick-I can see how needing the pool on particular hours could make it difficult. I work odd hours, so I go whatever time of day I can that works for my family and work schedule. Also-My gym is close-less than 2 miles I think-and there is another facility I can use a few miles further away-but with earlier opening, later closing. Plus I don't take any specific classes-just go for a cardio blast or a weight training sessions which I do on my own. So I can go when it is convenient 4 me-anytime I can make it between 5AM -> 10PM.

Mine is 1/2 mile away and I regret that I am not a morning person otherwise I could do my thing @ 5am and be at work by 7am.

So, I get there immediately afer work @ 4pm when my 51 yr old body would rather be taking a nap. I get there and pray for help to get motivated... seriously! It works but is still a great effort. Once I get warmed up, I'm good to go.

This whole working out thing is more a mental thing. You can never reach your physical goals until you have your mind convinced that you can do it. My brain is often stubborn but I will it into submission so I can be sore all over. :)

My husband has recently started joining me when I go down to our clubhouse to swim. He doesn't care for swimming but there is a treadmill there and he has been doing 30 minutes of walking then he usually does schoolwork while he waits for me to finish up. This has helped tremendously since he used to talk me out of going. Today he is nagging ME to go. This is a wonderful thing!!!

400 crunches last night with 8 lbs of weight and then 4 mile run this morning.

Sure can tell the difference in my runs when I've been keeping up on those crunches.

Made it to my yoga/pilates class at lunch even though I was achy and didn't want to go. Decided it was just achy muscles due to pregnancy and went anyways. As I expected, I feel much much better now.

I went to Health Plus Fitness Center today and I walked fast around the indoor track for about 30 minutes. I had 3lb weights in my hands while I was walking. After walking, one of the workers in the gym set me up on the Leg Press machine. I did 2 sets of 15 leg presses. I'm trying to tone up my thighs.
