Karen, I agree with you. I had to say NO to all of it, simply because I could not handle having a "small" amount. I think I could now, but I'm not willing to test my theory just yet. It was really hard at first, but I think looking back, it was easier than trying to moderate myself and then feeling guilty and shameful when I couldn't. I recently gave up white flour. I am surprised to report I feel wonderful, and I really don't miss it at all. I admit I had already gone to whole wheat/whole grain on most everything, but I finally just took the plunge and went all the way.

I am firmly under 160 for the first time in a very long time. I am losing slowly, but surely and I like it that way. I don't have to guess what I need to eat or how much I need to eat in order to maintain my loss. I worked out a bit too vigorously last week so I ended up having to take a few days off, but I cleaned my house top to bottom yesterday and I'm sore today, so I guess I'm back on track lol. Back to the gym tonight for me.

Molly, you are awesome. I don't think I've ridden a bike in years, but you make me wanna go out and get one. It's beautiful outside today, and I've already gotten the babies out on the porch and now everyone is sleeping soundly. Ahhhh, I forget sometimes to take a deep breath and enjoy the little moments.

PS - I ordered some smocks to cover my clothes so that I didn't continue to ruin them while keeping babies, and they finally arrived - THEY ARE TOO BIG LOL! I've never been so excited to return something in my life :)

Yay for clothes that are too big! I am waiting for my new shorts to arrive . . .

I must admit that I was gratified and excited after biking 87 miles last week to see that the scale was cooperating so nicely with my healthy-eating goals: I lost 4 pounds this week, woo hoo!!! And, in looking at my overall weight loss since I started on December 1, I am happy to report that as of this morning, I've lost 15 percent of my starting weight in just 14 weeks! And the best news, as far as I'm concerned, is the fact that it seems that my body's insulin needs have diminished greatly due to my biking, and I am now down to just ONE INSULIN SHOT PER DAY! (at bedtime!) WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It's nine days until my 45th birthday, but I must say that this is a great gift to myself! (happy sigh)

Getting healthier one nibble at a time ...

Wonderful! and I loved the link!

ok, I just logged in over at calorie.com and entered in what I ate today and my activity level. I ate 1262 calories and burned up 398 calories on my bike. Not bad. Now, what I ate today wasn't all that nutritional, so I am going to work more on that this week.

I have lost 31.5 lbs since July 1st. Just 34 more to shed.

Wow, that is awesome!

Well, I did eat 1 1/2 brownies and four cookies, but for my bedtime snack, I'm eating three clementines and a glass of milk, instead of more brownies.

I'm really discouraged. I haven't quit yet, but I'm really discouraged. I do not understand how I can be mindful of my eating and working out, and instead of any loss over the course of 1/2 week (since Friday) - I've gained instead?

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. I can only handle plateauing for so long before I give up. I don't know if I should seek outside help from either a nutritionist or a doctor, if I should try a different eating plan, or what.

*sigh*

I ended up eating the brownies, as well as some candy.

Started over today though.

Betty, I know that feeling all too well. I might be wrong, but your body might be building muscle, which weighs more than fat. This doesn't show up on the scale, but it will help your body as you continue to slim down. Don't give up, you can do it, because all things are possible with God!

After pondering and consulting with DH-of-awesomeness, I decided to revamp what I'm doing. One of the things I read re: being stuck in plateau's is to change up what you're doing and keep the body guessing. So, I'm temporarily modifying my food intake toward lower carbs and modifying my workouts. We got stronger resistance bands for EA active, and starting today I'm going outside to attempt the Couch to 5K program.

Last night in my EA active workout I had a few "runs" into the program, and the longest I jogged for 4 minutes. Couch to 5K starts with 60 secs jogging, 90 secs walking, so I think I'll be okay. It'll be nice to be outside, anyway.

DH is sticking with his current eating plan, as it is still working marvelously for him. I'm so proud of him!

That is what I did to start running.

I started power walking at like 20 min.

Then I would power walk for 4 min, run 1, power walk for 4 run one etc. and just keep moving it up slowly until I was running the whole 20 min. I felt the increase in speed keeps your body guessing.

I also try to do weights at least once a week for my whole body. Keep building muscles.

I did not eat on plan last night at all. We had KFC. Ugh! I have not even figured out the points yet.

I have done really well at sticking to my good eating plan, but I am losing interest. I am at a pretty good weight, but I need to get modivated again to get down to the lower weight. Maybe it is just a tired bad week.

I lost another pound. I was over at my mom's and so jump on the scale for the heck of it. It made me happy.

Yay, Karen!

What can I report? It was a pretty normal day.

Biked 11 miles.

Ate my normal breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack. Dinner was salmon with green beans and chicken noodle soup.

Day #5 of no daytime insulin and my blood sugar numbers have been great (yay!)

Bought tomatoes, snow pea pods, red peppers and romaine lettuce at the grocery store today. Oh, and some lean ham.

Plan for Thursday? Buy cat food. Bike some more. Eat healthy.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I lost a stone (14lbs) between mid-December and end-January, and have spent the last month returning my eating to "normal" and keeping it off. I've succeeded in that, and it's great! But now I would like to do this again and lose another stone. That would make me just "overweight" on the BMI scale, and not "obese", which would definitely be a good thing!

Betty-Mellissa might be right. If you are doing resistance exercises you may be building muscle and losing fat which would show no movement on the scale, while still resulting in an improvement in body composition. Though do keep in mind a pound of fat and a pound of muscle both weigh a pound....LOL. The muscle just takes up significantly less room.

Also dont forget it is not just about numbers on the scale-its about doing good things for your body; getting regular exercise and limiting the processed junk we put in it.

Congrats Manda! I've found that keeping those long term goals in mind help keep me focused.

Keep up the good work ladies!

Ofa-those calories seem way too low. Are you seeing a doctor or nutritionist?

Surefire way to trash your metabolism is too eat too few calories.....

I haven't checked my BMI in a while, and not at all since I've lost 18 lbs, so I need to do that. It might give me additional motivation LOL!

Good job, Manda! (I had actually been wondering what a "stone" equaled in pounds, so now I know) Harvie, I am so inspired by your biking adventures lately! I would love to ride a bike again. Just trying to find time to get to the gym has been a real challenge this week. It's cold some part of the day, not so much others, but trying to schedule around the kids is exhausting in and of itself. I have done some weight training and I saw the scale inch up a pound, but that's due to the weight training I am sure of it. My legs are still very sore from my workout on Tues, so I'm thinking I'll just do upper body this evening after the elliptical.

I haven't tracked my eating for the past two days, and I induleged in a few things I shouldn't have over the course of the past few days, so I'm getting back on track first thing this morning. I think one of the keys to success is getting right back on track as soon as you realize you've gotten off the right path. Not waiting until the results show up on the scale or on your hips!

Ditto!

I did well yesterday by eating no sugary treats like cookies, etc. Today, I did have a pecan roll, but that's the only sugary treat I'm having today.

As for exercise, I lugged heavy boxes of books up and down the stairs a few times, so I got quite a workout. I got winded afterward, so I had to rest a while before doing anything else. Gaining weight has sure made life difficult for my body. I need to get it off as slowly as I can without jeopardizing my health.

I just found the answer.

This article also helps to explain how to measure your progress in other ways besides the scale.

Well my diet revamp is working...the scale is going back down. Today will be day 2 of couch to 5K...and this weekend DH and I will have to go shoe shopping because mah tennies are falling apart! I'm just hoping the rain will stay away this afternoon when I go out...

Last night we had dinner at MILs...I'm proud to say that I did NOT have dessert there (ice cream sandwich pie). I knew it would be just too many sugars and carbs. However, yesterday at the store I did buy some sugar free pb cups...and treated myself to one. SO MUCH YUM. Even though there's sugar alcohols, the calorie count is not much better than regular PB cups, but it was nice to have a little mini treat.

My mother died on Wed morning. I have not been able to get to the gym. Just too much going on. I am super proud of myself though, as eating is something to do, and although I am not eating the best things, am keeping the calories down. :) So I had Taco Bell yesterday, but that was all I had all day. So I am getting my comfort carbs.

Tonight will be the hardest, as my mom's cousin is flying down and we are meeting up with him and my brother for dinner. Nice to reconnect, but I am going to have to be so careful about my choice.

I am going back to the treadmill. I feel like I am capable of getting a better workout and less damage to my knees. Maybe when I get the weight and physical shape I am aiming for I might try it outside again. But untl then I just want to stay on track with my weight and fitness goals.
