I don't know if this has been mentioned in the many pages of this, but:

I would like to see an "Over 40" folder.

There are many of us whose children are raised and out of the house and are now dealing with a different set of issues.

Empty nest syndrome.
Grandchildren
Retirement
Getting to know our spouse again
Etc.

Just different things that don't really fit into the "younger group" folders.

Thanks
Kim
They may not fit into 'one group' but there is a place for them in forums as it is. Marriage, parenting, relationships, home and garden, finances, sport and hobbies, even health and fitness, men only and women only folders.

They may seem 'younger folders' to you but that doesn't exclude you. Maybe if some (like you) started posting in them, others would too. There was a time when the men's folder was hardly ever used (or at least the personal issues part) (I never went there, just what I heard) but from looking at the 'latest threads' and seeing that there are threads from that folder there, it seems to be used far more now.

I do frequent those folders (Marriage, Parenting etc), and what I notice is most of the topics are about new mothers or younger mothers dealing with young children, or newly marrieds...guess I will just have to start threads huh?

Thanks agape

I know that some of the threads all seem to be one particular kind of age group ~ I go into one folder sometimes and it seems to me that they're all younger people and their concerns simply aren't mine though the folder title 'fits' me. It can be really frustrating when you feel you're the only one in a particular situation and no folder fits right ~ although I'm sure this isn't the case.

I do think that once one person has started making threads because of questions and thoughts they have others will catch on to the idea (so to speak) and start posting about their own issues.

I like your posts when we've been in the same thread.

Several years ago, I posed the request for a grandparent's folder and was given the stock answer of posting some threads to generate interest in the topic. I did but as you can see there is no grandparent's folder, nor has there ever been any.

The problem with making random threads is that they get overlooked in a folder, can't be found since a person doesn't know where or when to look and there is no strength of unity since the posts are so "geographically" divided.

The number of people coming to the internet is growing in the AARP eligible age bracket. I would think that Salem would want to attract this group who have more discretionary funds to the Forums. A separate folder might just do that, thereby giving Salem an opportunity to increase its ad revenues.

Simple win, win situation.

Duffer,
I agree. As you get older, your interests change as well as situation.
I would think Salem would want that for their boomers too.

My sister (who is a 40ish single woman) has wanted an "Adult Single" folder for a long time but was told it might be used as a "dating service".

I dropped the pw because I kept being asked if I was married to a pastor . Took a while to do but it's one question I'm not asked any more!

And your former handle rings some bells I have to do some thinking to remember more though

But surely all threads are random within a folder and yes, they can seem to get overlooked but then they'll suddenly get noticed and everyone wants to post in them ~ I have a thread going that I thought had died quetly after a few posts and then it came back to life. Some folders move really quickly (Current Event for example) and a thread I started this morning may be on page 2 tomorrow morning. Some are slower the main one I can think of that I go to regularly is the Women Only ~ Personal folder.

I was told YEARS back that a folder wouldn't generate enough interest. But because people were posting on those topics a folder was created.

Theoretically that's the Singles folder.

quote:

I hope you do. I'm not a parent and I'm not married so I only ever visit those folders if something in 'latest threads' catches my eye or if someone in a thread I post in does a link.

To be totally honest, I'd really like to have a lil corner of CW for UK issues in it ~ but I'm aware that Salem will then have to do a folder for so many other countries too. Sometimes we can divide and divide and then suddenly there's nothing left but folders.

But here's a thought (and I think it was Fritz that suggested it a while back in regard to getting a 'one-stop' thread at the top of a folder) but obviously ask Fritz or one of the hosties about it.

Why not start a thread called 'Grandparent Issues'? Anyone wanting to ask anything about being a grandparent can post, so it's never off-topic. Everyone will know where to post and because it's an 'open' thread it should be fairly active. There's a thread going in the woman's folder that is on the 3rd or so thread because it was felt the other's were long enough. I don't mean make it a one-stop', just a regular thread.

We used to have a folder for older adults.

It was deader than a doornail.

We closed it because there was so little interest.

We continue to review the community and make adjustments.

At some point in time we may relaunch a folder for that sub-group but it will not be any time soon.

How about a profile setting of Widow. I'm new to the forums and just completed my profile. I guess I am technically Single, but since there is a selection for Divorced, I am curious why there is not one for Widowed or Widow.

Our church is seeking a Youth Minister. A folder or thread where ministry openings would be neat. We'd be able to reach pastors that might not ever hear of the opening.

Thanks!
Diane

Diane, is there someplace on the Crosswalk directory where you can list it? I don't know if there is but it's a thought.

No, we don't allow the forum to be used for advertising job openings.

We have two options available:
1. http://www.ChristianJobs.com
2. http://directory.crosswalk.com

Option one would obviously be the best one to both advertise for the opening as well as seeking someone to fill the position.

Our church advertised there when we were seeking to fill our pulpit.

You might also check with your church's denominational board... manytimes they keep resumes on file.

How 'bout a forum for church praise band members or music ministry people?

That's my wish

That would be considered Ministry Leaders or the Music folder.

Take your pick and have fun!

well, now that Mark is back...

I would like to have the "pre-sig" we used to have at CW v3 where we input our color and font and it would always be in our posts instead of having to manually put it in everytime.

Oh, yes! That would be absolutely awesome! It was terrific! Pretty please?!? I'll bet if you took a poll everyone would want it!

Don't actually know if this can already been done but someone will tell me

I would love to be able to edit thread titles (from threads others have started) so that they make sense to me. Some of the titles are so bizzare and some sound so alike, it would be good to personalise them without others having to deal with how I'd renamed the thread.

Would it be possible to add a feature like Gmail has where one could put a star or some other mark next to their favorite threads so it is easier to find them when looking at a long list?
